sash-belt-suspender or shoe buckle?

Not sure what type of buckle this is. Looks like a belt/sash buckle but the back looks like a suspender buckle, with the hook. If it were a belt or shoe buckle it would be sideways, so I dont think that would work.

My gut says a huge suspender buckle. Its just so much bigger than the usual 1800's suspender buckles.

Victorian Lady's sash buckle. The alligator style grip would hold the silk or other cloth the belt was made of.
 
I'm going with the woman's sash buckle. It is (in my opinion) too large and ornate for a suspender clip.
 
I agree.. I have a pile of suspender clips..that's rather large.. although I do have some really ornate ones.. I'll have to try to post the pile
