So...I want to set up a detector garden in my yard and I'd like to get some silver coins. A couple quarters, a couple dimes, maybe even a couple halfs. Just so I can set one of each at a mid depth and a deep depth. Anyways...if I'm not looking for coins in good condition because I'm going to bury them anyways, how much should I expect to pay for these 6 coins? I'm trying to get an idea because I was offered these coins and I want to make sure the price was fair. I'm assuming most are just selling based on current silver prices if the coin has no collector value.

Keep in mind that worn silvers can read a bit differently than crisper coins.
I’d go for average circulated silver for the garden.

Throw silver spot prices out the window.

For those six coins, $1.70 x face will cost you $25-$27 on average.

For instance, melt on a 1 oz. ASE is $17.50, but asking prices average $27.
Same with junk silver. Melt is about 12.5 x face but asking prices are averaging 15-16 x face.
Coin shops here aren’t open and shows have been cancelled. Your area may vary.

Do your due diligence by seeing what those silvers sell for on ebay. amc rulz is absolutely correct when he says forget spot silver prices. Since they have not been made in mass for 56 years, any silver with a date visible brings a premium above melt value.
