How old are most dug harmonica reeds?

I found most of them pretty deep. Do you think that when they were lost, they were whole harmonicas? they seem to be made of brass, wood and sheet metal which would rot and rust away over the long years in the dirt. the brass would last for a long time.
 
Hohner Harmonicas appeared at the time the Civil War and were popular throughout the Civil war even up to and through the second world war.

They were a common find in Confederate Camps, How else could "Dixie" be properly played!!

All original Hohners were made of Brass and Maple. I've found one that still had a lot of the wood intact.
 
Yea find tons of broken reeds in Germany quite often

Found a number of them as well alos in an area I've found civil war relics. one of them still had about 4 reeds mostly intact, wood was all gone though.
 
I have found them at sites from 1800's. But also sites from the 50's.

Finding good metal ones is a good sign the people that were there at least spent decent money so change of good relics and coins even if site from the 20th century.
