Did the FBI steal the Gold? Anyone know these guys?

....If they don't, then some of the D.B. Cooper bills could have been circulated for years and later destroyed by the Mint.

No ! No ! Don't say that ! Tsk tsk. You're destroying my aspirations that it's still waiting out there, in a briefcase, in the forest, just WAITING for me to find it. How can you be such a kill-joy ??

Do all currency serial #'s get randomly spot-checked , in normal-routine-circulation ? If so, I wasn't aware of that.

In other words: When investigators want to go check individual bundles of $$, then Sure: They compare #'s. But does the entire country's money supply have serial #'s checked, at some given check/choke point of the circulation system ?

Example: When you spend $20 at 7-11 for a slurpee, no one's checking the serial #, right ? And when that 7-11 takes their nightly deposit to the bank, no one at that bank is checking the serial # to see if it's connected to DB cooper, right ? And so forth through the circulation system.

It would have to be a concerted / purposed check, d/t some individual suspicion, right ?

Unless I'm wrong, and that in modern digital computerized times that we live in, that the currency supply is somehow going through a banking system "choke point", where currency serial #'s are being scanned perpetually, by some sort of computer reading system.

A month after the hijacking, the FBI distributed lists of the ransom serial numbers to financial institutions, casinos, racetracks, and other businesses that routinely conducted large cash transactions, and to law enforcement agencies around the world. Northwest Orient offered a reward of 15% of the recovered money, to a maximum of $25,000. In early 1972, U.S. Attorney General John N. Mitchell released the serial numbers to the general public.[

In early 1973, with the ransom money still missing, The Oregon Journal republished the serial numbers and offered $1,000 to the first person to turn in a ransom bill to the newspaper or any FBI field office. In Seattle, the Post-Intelligencer made a similar offer with a $5,000 reward. The offers remained in effect until Thanksgiving 1974, and though there were several near-matches, no genuine bills were found.[64] In 1975, Northwest Orient's insurer, Global Indemnity Co., complied with an order from the Minnesota Supreme Court and paid the airline's $180,000 claim on the ransom money.

Many money counters used by small businesses are capable of recording serial numbers. I personally have 2 that do this.

If it's this easy to do, I don't think it would be a big jump to conclude some or multiple government agencies, or even private institutions contracted by gov agencies track serial numbers on bills.

You're beating a dead horse. Let it go. It's baloney stories like this one that gives all treasure hunters a bad rep. You're just regurgitating the same silly story over and over.

The update was just to show that some of the court ordered documents are starting to be released , i never claimed there was any treasure there. figured some that are following the story might like to know . quote from article (The trove of documents turned over to Finders Keepers also included nearly 1,000 photos, in grainy black-and-white, that show some — but certainly not all — of what the FBI was doing at the dig site, ) They did post a link to what the FBI has released if anyone wants to see it. https://vault.fbi.gov/alleged-missing-civil-war-gold-in-dents-run-elk-county-pennsylvania

David just like to goad my horse . His other hobby is torturing baby kittens.

The update was just to show that ....

It won't matter what is released to FK and his gang. They will just continue to spin everything as proof of a fabulous treasure.

And if it DOESN'T show proof of a fabulous treasure, that too will be proof of a fabulous treasure. Because the lack of proof only proves whitewashed redacted coverups. Therefore, lack-of-proof *IS* proof. Kind of ironic, eh ? :?:

And we will never see one red cent of treasure. Durned that FBI anyhow !

Tom is right i do enjoy pushing his buttons :hornetsnest::hornetsnest: but figured it might be fun to see what the reports do show since they are required to show them . a link that shows what has been released so far https://vault.fbi.gov/alleged-missing-civil-war-gold-in-dents-run-elk-county-pennsylvania .

This is correct.
All of the paper money, gold and silver were well documented during the civil war on both the confederate and union sides. Historians with doctorate degrees have researched the civil war in detail for over 150 years. If there had been gold, they would have written about it years ago.

I see we’ve moved on to DB Cooper, wonderful….

In the past few months, the children of Richard Floyd McCoy Jr. have come out with all the details that prove their Dad was D.B. Cooper. They stated they had to wait until their Mom and Aunt died because they were afraid doj would prosecute them even at their advanced ages. It was just another situation where a Vietnam veteran was broke, could not pay bills and needed money. The Mom and Aunt were definitely accomplices in the two hijackings. It is a very sad story.

AAAaaaahhh, but don't you see ?? This is the notion that *they* want you to believe. It's all a part of the grand coverup conspiracy . And it must be working, if they've convinced you to believe there's no gold.

Like any good criminal, the first thing they do is : Hide the evidence. Eh ? ;)

....Historians with doctorate degrees have researched .

Either those "historians with doctorate degrees" are in on the conspiracy, or they simply don't know as much as arm-chair ghost-story hunters know !

I do not think people know to what extent the civil war has been researched.
For over 100 years graduate students working on their Masters and Doctorate have been examining in detail every memoir and every personal document donated to the major universities by the families of cw participants. Just in the hope, they can discover some detail that none of their peers have discovered.

And that's what makes being a conspiracy theorist *so fun*. Is that : You know more than even the credentialed experts know.

I had this confused conversation with someone who claimed there was a way to keep from having to pay property tax. Some convoluted titling process, where you put the deed/title of your home in some esoteric legal jargon process, so that you no longer have to pay property tax.

I objected to the person saying something akin to what you're claiming here. Eg.: "If that were true, then every accountant and real estate lawyer would already be ALL OVER IT ! ". Ie.: NO ONE would be paying property tax, if there were a legal way to avoid it.

But the conspiracy theorist stuck to their guns, and pushed back with :

a) The real estate lawyers and accountants simply don't know the method.

b) The government keeps the process hidden (denies the legality), because otherwise everyone would jump on board. Ie.: The govt. doesn't want property tax revenue to dry up. Therefore the govt. won't admit it's true, and will try to dissuade you from doing it. Ie.: It's a govt. hush-job-conspiracy. But rest assured : It's workable and true.

I may hate myself later for asking, but you have link?!?

Yes. You will hate yourself.
It is quite the long worm hole. I watched it in segments over a period of days.
The story is complicated and the family friend who helped the kids get the story out is slow at presenting the details. I think the author is uniquely qualified to make this video because he is a commercial pilot, airshow pilot, and sport parachute jumper. It was particularly interesting how the friend disproved everything the agent in charge said was fact. I do not remember if it is brought out in the video, but research what eventually happened to McCoy.

Tom,

Forget about gold or other alleged treasures for a minute, infsct forget about 90% of the story that's been spun...Are you not curious what the independent Survey company detected, that led to the FBI searching?

Is the company a fraud? Was the technology used, faulty? Was something else down there detected ie a large natural iron deposit in maybe?

I have said before I am 99.99% certain there was no gold, but I would like to understand how the false positive survey result occurred...

That is stuck in my mind also. Someone surely did a core sample.

No. That was not what "led the FBI to search". Here's what "led the FBI to search" : This FK fellow spent YEARS banging on government doors. And screaming to the media everywhere that he'd "found a fabulous treasure". Seeking their permission to dig it up, split the $$, etc... THAT'S what finally caused any G'men to go out and look.

Let me give you an example : If I told a bunch of govt. LEO agencies that I knew where 5 murder victim bodies were, buried in the desert, I bet I could get a caravan of LEO types to go out digging where I tell them. Eh ?

And look closely at all the claims said to have been made by the "survey company". And you will notice that they are what FK-&-gang claim they heard, interpreted, etc....

And BTW: You would be shocked at the silly conclusions that expert companies like that can come to. Some expert credentialed archaeologists can come to the silliest conclusions and musings at times. I've read reports where archaeologists will use metal detectors (for instance) to analyze a site, and come away with no finds, or false signals off their steel-towed boots, etc... Meanwhile, I'm reading the report thinking : "If only they knew how many reales and buttons came from that exact area".

What I'm trying to say is, there is no doubt a perfectly good answer to answer about your "independent survey Co" question. And no matter what it is, and no matter how much it points to "no treasure", FK will spin it the other way. And claim they said such & such, or have white-washed the records, etc...

Back in the 1990's, there was a PhD in history teaching a class at the University of South Carolina. One of his graduate students ran across campus, busted through the door and interrupted the class saying he had to come to the office immediately. The student had been opening boxes donated to the university by a family in South Carolina. In one of the boxes were the handwritten journals of Porter Alexander, Robert E. Lee's chief of artillery for the Army of Northern Virginia. They became the book titled, "Fighting for the Confederacy" and the significance was that the journals were not written for public view but for his daughters to know what he did in the war. Thus, he wrote exactly what he thought about cw leaders on both sides including Lee and much of it was not too favorable. Don't you think that graduate student pretty well had a easy path to the doctorate degree after that discovery?
