Went back to my site of an old grade school yesterday - previously found 1904 IHP and toasted 1890 V nickel along with a lot of old iron etc (no other coins). Those two were found within 15-20 feet of each other and since I'd found no other coins anywhere on the property I decided to cover that area best as I remembered where it was. Within 15 minutes I had a so-so signal and for the first time saw that silver shine in the dirt! 1951 Rosie, 4-5" down. Marked that spot and went in widening circles around it, hit the 1941 wheatie a few feet away, about the same depth. Then junk and more junk. Lots of bits of wire that took a while to find. When I was getting close to quitting I hit another signal and had to dig quite a ways, the 1890 IHP was at least 6" down. Today I did my chores quick to get a couple more hours out there. Detected around an old cedar tree at the corner of the property and was just cutting a diagonal to my "hot spot" when the Mojave went off. Signal was a little bit broken and figured it was junk but out popped a 1942
Walker only about 3" down and I FREAKED OUT. The rest of the day was pretty dry; some old railroad spikes, the railroad was a big part of the history of our small town - the LK&W railroad started out as a narrow gauge, wonder if the smaller spikes could have been from it? Also a cool UMC Nitro Club 12-gauge headstamp,

Thanks! After finding the half and the dime, I'm thinking this has been detected little if at all. Right on about the design of the Walking Liberty! Finding it was like something I'd dream and then wake up disappointed.

That half dollar is a beautiful coin. And a bonus Indian head penny that came out very clean congratulations! HH GL

Also got a UMC New Club headstamp yesterday, both of these look like they are older than any headstamps I've found previously. School was built in 1910 so they likely predate it.

Thanks everybody! Funny thing is last night after a drink or two I got analytical and told my wife I'd probably never find a half or dollar coin there because that was a lot of money back then and grade school kids wouldn't carry that much on them :) If this place is virgin or near-virgin it will be a reality check when I've covered it all thoroughly and have to go back to places that others have hit hard. Except for a couple wheats all my old coins are from this one place.

Congrats on your first silver! And congrats on the other really nice finds. I'd take a hunt like that any day of the week!

Awesome finds with the Rosie and Walker, there is just something about those nice green IH's that I really love though, it's a beauty as well. Congrats.

That little mojave is paying itself off! I have one too and love it. Those are some great finds and like someone else pointed out: that indian head came out of the ground in really good shape. I just found my first IHP yesterday in the woods on my property and it was so crusty I could barely make it out. Probably all those tannins in the decomposed leaves.

Big congrats on the Walker ! It looks to be in awesome condition. And I agree with others saying without a doubt thats the best looking coin ever. Good luck. and HH Mark

You knocked it out the park! Big Super Congrats! Nice silver coins and a beautiful IH. It's kind of like cheating when you use a Mojave. My best find ever, a $5 dollar gold coin, was found using a Mojave.

Congratulations on the nice finds. In a total of 9 years detecting out of the last 30 years Ive never found a half dollar anything, I want one so bad!

Hit that spot again after good soaking rain.....or snow.

Thanks guys! I was just hoping someday to find a Merc or a Buffalo nickel, never dreaming a schlub like me would find a Walker. Proves you guys can certainly do it too! Only thing I had going for me was knowing the history of the school having been there. A passerby said he thought it wasn't used after 1962 at the latest so any coin I turn should be good.
Oh, I forgot the in the dirt pix!
