Okay.
My experiences/recommendations are.
Get a shovel that is long enough to drag so shovel drags the ground. If you get one longer you will have to bend your arm too much. Get one too short you’ll have to slump to drag. Or if you want to carry I would get an event shorter shovel.
Sounds like you need a 39” shovel based on your height.
I like a 40-41” shovel and I am 70.5” tall.

Got me sold on that Nomad....About to order one now. Thanx ya'll

I saw a U-tube video of a fella using a shovel that had Foot Pads. This is an option. I need some info on these pads..where to find...will they fit on the Nomad. Is this shovel pre-drilled for foot pads?

the shovel with pads is made by predator tools. the best shovels out there in my opinion with plenty of size and handle options. I broke a few hardware store shovels, whites ground hawg twice, trust me these shovels are worth every single penny.

I hike a lot to my areas, so I use a mini shovel. About 28" overall

+1 for this shovel and Predator Tools.

I have this shovel and absolutely love it. Not to rah rah, and by all means, get whatever you like, but Predator Tools are heavy duty, USA made by a small family business, high quality.

Just ordered last night (on Amazon) a Root Slayer Nomad. Should have it tomorrow.

Here's a copy/paste from a reply I posted to another recent thread about digging tools:

Regarding the "Root Slayer" competition, I see a few models on Amazon.com, but there were no specs on overall length, etc. They are from Radius Garden. Their web site is https://radiusgarden.com/

Here are their models, with Amazon.com prices, weight, and overall lengths. There's quite a difference in the blade lengths/widths among these models too, so pay attention to that.

Root Slayer Perennial Shovel - $34.99 - 3lbs, 3 oz - 44" https://radiusgarden.com/collections...rennial-shovel

Root Slayer Shovel, (Red) - $49.99 - 5 lbs., 8 oz. - 44.5" https://radiusgarden.com/collections...ts/root-slayer

Root Slayer Nomad - $39.99 - 2lbs, 7 oz. - 39" https://radiusgarden.com/collections...t-slayer-nomad

Root Slayer Mini-Digger - $29.99 - 2 lbs., 12 oz. - 29" https://radiusgarden.com/collections...er-mini-digger

I like the idea of the round handle on the first two, versus the one on the Nomad, but the Nomad has the weight advantage. I need to replace the heavy Lesche digger I lost last year and may go for one of these.

Just had delivery of my Root Slayer Nomad. First thing I did was take a Sharpie (™️) indelible marker and put my name and phone number on the shaft, in a spot that will not see wear from using it. Wishing I had done this on the Lesche “T-handle” shovel I lost at a hunt and was never found. Lesson learned.

Hope to be able to use this before old man winter ends detecting season around here.
