The flat button appears to be unmarked front or back. I thought it was a worn out penny at first until I saw where the shank had come off. If I hold my mouth right and wish hard enough I can almost make out concentric intentions or rings on one side of the face.

I’ve never found a lead harmonica insert like this. Always the reeds, never this part.

Can anyone give me an age range on either piece?

Last pic shows the indentions at the top that almost look like a design.

Try a pencil rubbing on the button

I doubt the reed is lead. Probably white metal , a mixture of lead tin pewter. Pure lead would absorb sound and be to soft. Ive dug quite a few that look just like yours and were white metal. Ifu chip it and its bright and grainy its white metal. Pure lead would practically fold under it own weight
not sure on an age.
Once I dug one that was white metal and it was a foot long. No joke.

That makes sense not being pure lead. It doesn’t bend as easily as I thought lead would have.

Is there a certain type of paper that picks up better? Regular copy paper seems like it’d be too thick.

I usually just use notebook paper or 1 of my sketch pads has thin paper
