Nice condition, what was the environment like where you found that? I want to find some like that. All of those Nickels around my area are corroded by fertilizer I think.

Congrats
Shield nickels are harder to find than seated.

Do you have a pic of the obverse.

It’s an old hay field with clay under the loam I’m shocked at the condition the coin is in every nickel I have ever dug was corroded.

Very nice hunt. I'm yet to find a shield. That one had to have been a very fresh drop indeed!

Wow, what a beautiful shield nickel. Congrats on the save and attaboy on the other saves. I have only dug one and it was barely Idable. Well done. Mark

Back to add that I like how you cleaned the nickel. So many, including myself, tend to over-clean trying to eke out a little more detail and at some point it has the opposite effect.

Great finds. I can't wait to find more coins and expand my meager assortment. I have so much catching up to do. Funny thing is that I was a combat engineer in the army when I was a younger man, and used mine detectors now and then, but for some reason, never made the transition to recreational detecting in my free time. Probably the idea of tripping a bouncing betty, or setting off an M15 or an M20 in the local park dissuaded me from the enjoyment I now have walking around for hours on end.
