Was hunting a old home site site or barn on a hill and decided to explore a small flat spot near a creek. Had a very sweet signal, thinking it was a coin, and out pops an NC Sunburst button. My first confederate relic. Must have been a fluke - nothing else in that spot.

At first I was concerned your button might not be good, but I believe I have found the correct one in Tice's book. The one I think matches exactly is Tice's number NC233Am1. He states: "17mm, These may have been used by the affluent 6th North Carolina Regiment." I hope you appreciate how rare it is to find one that has the shank still in place, and then be able to identify the regiment it belonged too. You might want to consider playing the lottery for a day of so. Nice going.

Congrats on a nice button. I don't think it's a fluke though. Lot's of things were brought home from the war. We've found a mix of Confederate and Yankee buttons at one particular homesite. Best one is a script I with CS on it. You have to look real close to see!
