Yeah Buddy, Scratching my Beach Hunting Itch next week

I’ve always known I married the right woman on my 2nd try, and a couple hours ago, she proved me right. I’m at my PC when she comes up and stands beside me. We’ve been married over 12 years so when she comes up and just stands next to me when I’m busy doing something, I know something’s up. I stopped what I was doing, turned to look up at her, and immediately noticed she was giving me one of those pouty “I want something” looks. You married guys know what I’m talking about. So, I brace myself and prepare for the worst, i.e., how much work is this request gonna require, lol.

But, to my great delight, the “work” I was mentally preparing myself for just so happens to be my favorite kind of “work”, which is digging holes in the sand. While I was busy in my own world, unbeknownst to me, she was online checking hotels down at the beach, found a great deal, and with a shy, “honey please” type look she asked if we could go down to the beach next week. Booya! I replied, hmmm, let me think on that for a nanosecond. Hell Yeah! Thank God my wife absolutely loves the beach; she can even be more insane about hitting the sand than me, lol. We got 2 nights at a large, upper end 4.5-star beach front hotel in a resort town at a dirt-cheap price. Best thing is, I just walk out of the hotel, take a few steps and I’m on sand. The Hotel is pet friendly, so my pooch is coming. Every room is ocean front with balcony, so if/when I’m out hunting while it’s raining, colder or windy, she can sit on the balcony with the dog and watch me swinging a coil.

Weds looks to be in the high 40’s, good chance of rain (40%), check in is 4pm, and tide starts falling in the afternoon and reaches lowest tide around 7:45pm, perfect timing. After we check in, I’ll grab my Dual Field PI, pouch and scoop and spend a few hours hitting the wet, working my way down as the tide recedes until dark. And if it’s raining, so much the better. Love hunting in the rain, it pretty much guarantees I’ll have the entire beach to myself. Dual Field is waterproof; I’ll wear my diver booties, swimsuit and a heavier rain jacket with hood, as winds will be coming from the East at 10 - 15mph.

Thurs high looks to be 55, cloudy, but with a much lower chance of rain at about 9%. Morning low tide starts in the wee AM hours and reaches low tide around 9:45am. Then tide rises until around 2pm, then starts dropping again, reaching low tide around 8:45pm. I know how I am and getting out at 6 or 7AM for the morning low tide is probably a non-starter. I’d like to sleep in, get breakfast, coffee, etc., and ease my way into waking up. So, I think I’ll take advantage of the afternoon low tide. I’ll be taking my Dual Field PI for serious wet & shallow water, and I think I’ll take my X-Terra Elite, also waterproof, to get some time on that detector. I haven’t really used it since I got it last year, so I’ll spend some time with it on the dry and maybe some wet before the afternoon tide starts going out, see how it performs, handles the dry & wet, how it handles iron and trash, start learning some numbers, then I’ll switch back to the Dual Field to work the wet down to the water as the tide recedes.

Last trip down to the beach, I was sick as a dog, so only got to hunt 3 hours on day 1, and 2 hours on day 2. So, I’m hoping (praying) that we’re both healthy for this trip. Some of you guys have been making some really great finds lately, so I’ve got a serious beach itch for cheddar I need to scratch.

Snap out of it boy! What is wrong with you? You have the perfect opportunity to hunt TWO low tides each day. Assuming you're staying longer than Thursday.
GET OUT THERE and get the cheddar man!!! Sleep when you get home for gods sake.

We don't want to hear any whining and crying when you get back that you didn't find and cheddar if you're willing to sleep away 50% of your gold ops.

But I guess by sleeping in and slacking off, you'll have plenty of time to kill and will likely be visiting with Earl at the Scoop museum. The two of you can chat about the good ol' days when you use to metal detect at every opportunity. :oldguy: :laughing:

I live ten minutes from the beach and haven't been out in weeks while I baby sit contractors doing our kitchen. Have a good time, and find some good stuff.
I've only gotten out once this year for about a 10 minute hunt. The wife decided I needed to remodel not one but two complete bathrooms. Finished the first one mid Feb and am just wrapping up the second one now. Finally getting out there hunting this weekend.
I NEED some cheddar! :pirate:
 
His wife can watch the dog , here dogs are allowed on the beach till April 30th . , you just clean up the dodoo . Wonder what Sand would do if he found that big diamond in front of his wife, than suddenly - she sticks out her hand 🤚:?::jawdrop:& smiles 💋 Craig tell the story again about taking your wife to the beach , she must have been the finds bag manager- at the time A :?:
 
Story time to say you going hunting next week :yes: I plan on next week as well, but you won't see me write a novel on going hunting :lol: and you will never see my wife at the beach, I made that mistake one time only.
He's just setting us up , - for pull tabs & bottle caps , so he doesn't take any heat :yes:🔥 when he skunks out 🦨:lol: What blocks are you hunting Sand ? I know zero hotels with every room ocean front !

No, the wife doesn't get any gold anymore after taking a 22k ring i let her have to Colombia and it vanished... she can have silver and stainless... I am not whipped like someone in this thread seems to be.

LOL, thanks Bear Stalker, I knew I could count on you! I was wondering when & who would jump in to bust my chops. Feels good, it's been way too quiet and calm around here lately. :laughing:

Yeah, I'll be sleeping in on Thurs morning BUT that's because I'm planning to hunt about 8 hours that day. I'll be able to get 2 low-tide hunts in. On Weds, I'll have 3-4 hours of daylight left after checking as checking in time is 4pm, and low tide is around 7:45pm, so I'll be working wet only with the Dual Field from the top of the slope, following the water down as the tide receded.

Thurs, I'll start with the X-Terral Elite a couple hours before the tide starts receding, so I can get some time on that detector. I bought it last year but really haven't used as I tend to grab either the Dual Field or Sovereign Elite. I'll work the dry and down to the wet to see how the detector performs. But around 2pm, the tide starts going back out so I'll grab the Dual Field and hit the wet hard, following the water as it recedes. Low tide on Thurs is 8:30ish, so will be after dark, but most large hotels down there have lights that light up the beach in front of the hotel. No problem continuing in the dark, I'll have my tactical flashlight and peacekeeper with me in case lady luck takes pity on me and lets me hit on some cheddar.

HA, this ain't my first rodeo BS, started detecting in 69', had a good share of great hunts, far more OK hunts, and of course, quite a few hunts that just plain sucked, comes with the territory. Look through any of my 1,300 posts, you won't see any whining or crying from me on anything:crying:And no worries, I post what I find, trash, treasure, or combination of the two. The newbies & young'uns in the forum need to learn & know that the pouch doesn't always get filled with gold on every hunt, no matter what they might see on YouTube videos, lol.

LOL, you're killing me Smalls! I'd prefer if Earl would join me out on the beach. We could chat about the good ole' days while we're working the wet. No, wait, that wouldn't work. I don't like to chat when I detect, I prefer to be focused, zoned in and listening for faint whisper signals and nulls. So, we might not chat, but at least we could hang and give our arms and calf muscles a good workout. 💪

Want the story again? Was hunting with my PI Pro found a trough, 4 gold rings within 45 minutes, she walks down to waters edge and says she is cold and wants to go home, so I take her home thinking I'll start off where I left off next low tide cycle I go back trough is filled it, at that point I promised myself never to take her to the beach again and I haven't.

LOL, it's one thing for a guy to "say" he's going hunting next week, but it's another when that guy puts his money where his mouth is by reserving and paying for a hotel to make that hunt happen. That's novel, lol. And of course, I've got receipts. 💸

No worries with the wife. I've been very blessed, my wife is not obsessed with bling, clothes, or shoes like most women. Can't count the number of times I've offered to get her some bling, new clothes or shoes, and she declined. That said, her weakness or Achilles heel, is restaurants. If I offer to take her to a restaurant, the chances she will decline are pretty much zip, nada, 0.

Earl, you obviously don't know my wife. She has diamond engagement & wedding rings, and a couple necklaces I bought her years ago. She asked for a new watch for Christmas. I asked her which one she wanted and she showed me a pic of a $35 Timex. I too wear a $35 digital Timex, tells time just as well as a Rolex, lol. She's not into flash or gaudy.

I'd have no problem pulling a diamond encrusted stunner in front of her. She wouldn't stick out her hand, wouldn't ask me for the ring. But I can tell ya, what she WOULD do would be to ask me if I was planning to sell it, or hold on to it like everything else I've found over the years. So, she wouldn't be picturing that stunning ring on her finger, she'd be picturing the $ that stunner would represent if/when sold, lol.

Hell, I don't need to go down to the beach to find pull tabs, I've found them in my front yard while digging holes to plant flowers, lol. Not worried about taking heat from experienced hunters, because they all know what it's like to come home with some great finds, and also know what it's like to come home empty handed. I might find some cheddar, might not, but if I don't get out on the beach and hunt, there's a 100% guarantee I won't find anything. Gotta go to know.

I think President Theodore Roosevelt summed up my thoughts & philosophy best in his speech "Man in the Arena".

I'll be hunting at Nunya beach, north OC. I think all the rooms are ocean front but would have to double check to be certain but really don't care either way. I know I have an ocean front room, and all of the rooms I saw on their website when making the reservation were all listed as ocean front rooms, so I assumed they're all ocean front. But if not, doesn't bother me one bit, my room is ocean front, that's all I was concerned about, lol.

Gotta take care of the wife since she brought up the idea. I like your "Attitude of Gratitude" regarding hunting. You can't win the lotto if you don't buy a ticket. IMO , cause I been there is : since life is short and you both love the beach , sell your current home. Buy whatever you can afford AT the beach. Even a mobile home. You 2 will be much happier in life.

Hope you have the luck i recently had. Absolutely insane hunts. Just went over it with Craig and he says I probably shouldn't post. I hunted so much I actually got myself worn out and sick...GL out there , you will have a great time.

Absolutely! Wife is VERY happy we're hitting the beach next week. And with an ocean front room and balcony, she will be loving life. She's always super happy and most relaxed when we're down at the beach. AND COT KOB, as I'm sure you're well aware, when she's very happy & relaxed, especially at the beach, that has a way of evolving into my greatest form of treasure, if you catch my drift. Cheddar or not, I'm gonna win on this trip, lol. :sunny:

IMO , cause I been there is : since life is short and you both love the beach , sell your current home. Buy whatever you can afford AT the beach. Even a mobile home. You 2 will be much happier in life.
Gotta pay to play, can't expect to win if ya don't play. Can't find cheddar without going to the beach with detector in hand and paying some dues to earn that yellow, or silver.

Been there with a mobile home and also a house. Wife had a mobile home down near Rehoboth when we first got together about 16 years ago, which I lovingly called our "vacation estate". After we got married in 2013, a short while later, we sold the mobile home and bought a single-family home on a large lot about 10 miles from the beaches. Owned that for about 7 or 8 years, sold it, made $ on the sale. We do want to get another place, but it will need to be a 2nd home type situation. In just the last couple of weeks, we've welcomed our 8th grandchild into the world, so with 8 grandkids and all our family here close to where we live, no way that we're picking up to move to another state. I'll take another mobile home, no problem. Just need a place to sleep, eat, and an outside shower I can use to wash off my scoop and detector, lol.

Thanks brother, don't know what all you found but sounds like you had some killer hunts. Man, I feel yer pain with getting yourself sick. That last hunt, when I had the sinus infection, bronchitis, and my wrist in a brace, I could only manage hunting 3 hours on 1st day and 2 hours on 2nd day. My brain wanted to keep going but my head and body just wasn't having it. It's hard to hunt when ya can't breathe and constantly need to stop to catch breath. But luckily, I found that 925 ring with stones on that 2-hour hunt. Next week, I hope to God I'm feeling good, because I plan to hunt the sh*t outta the beach on Thursday. I don't care if I wear myself out or drive myself to the edge of dropping. Wife can drive us home in my truck next day if needed, lol. One things for sure, I may or may not find cheddar, but it won't be for a lack of effort.

He was sick with pneumonia, he and I shared a similar injury and both were wearing wrist braces, I still wear mine at times side to side motion uncomfortable to my wrist next time I go to doctor gonna see if I fractured it, should have had a xray done back then but I figured it was just a soft tissue injury and blew it off.

Agree with your decision, in the end , that cost you some bucks , the window closed . I remember the X had to sit down every other block & smoke , after she told me , I just go for you , she never found much here , never went in the 5 week vacation to Melbourne Florida , being she was not really interested in the hobby , I never asked for her to go again , however I never closed the window , she could go if she wanted !

First, I have herd of this , well Craig, - Felix gets out hunting plenty as long as he puts blinders on & leaves the Go Pro home , occasionally he gets permission to get a pick of a hot chic/ ring return , I say Felix is living the dream , if you were refiring to Felix , he responded , no name posted , he just assumed :yes: , care to explain , or maybe he must present his finds after each hunt :shock: , and the boss 💋💄💋 lets him know if it's Her's , or His :shrug: a Wild Guess :lol:
