In January at 3am there will still be 500 to 1000 people roaming around. The worst part is this beach is a fishbowl with mush sand. I've never pulled anything notable from here

In January, I'll be all alone, hunters up here rarely hunt in winter, they sitting in a nice heated house waiting for spring

Why do you think that is? Do the Chinese not wear much gold jewellery? Or too much competition from other detectorists?

Heavy competition. 24k jewelry. Anti-erosion barriers. The sand just piles onto itself. Its pretty safe to say a ring lost in the afternoon is found by midnight or gone for the foreseeable future.

"The sand just piles onto itself"... Does it all concentrate out in the bay somewhere? Can it be dredged? Or you're saying it just piles up right there on the beach?

Steve used to kill the high karat gold then others started buying detectors and now Steve has posted each time he goes to the beach it looks like a seeded hunt with the number of guys detecting.

Its even worse this year. The photo above is a bit to the extreme. In fact, the lifeguards will kick out anyone with a metal detector as they have their own. Last time I was there I had to walk into the water with everything in a backpack and assemble it standing in the water.
In the photo you can see the roped in swimming sections. About the size of a basketball court each area. This is the way most beaches are setup. At night there will be 20 guys per section searching. Literally feet from each other. During the day there might be 2 or 3. All searching for fresh drops.
Absolute clown show.

In 13 years I haven't seen even a single rock or low spot. I blasted a hole 4ft deep with my nemo and stuck my arm down deep into the hole... mush. Its possible once every decade a storm will hit it just at the right angle, but I've never seen it.

Used to be. Not anymore. They are searching with the swimmers while looking for fresh drops. Before nobody knew what they were doing. Now everyone knows.

I'm no talking about detectorists, I'm talking about people. There are none so there's no gold. One local pirate went on a drought of 34 hunts without gold. Same amount of detectorists down here but very few people in the water.
