who melts there own finds like silver ?

i know i have seen post of people with there own smelter
i have lots of silver rings i would like to get made into a silver bar
my question is who would melt these for me and make a silver bar ?
of course you would be getting extra silver for your time
i don't want a person to make ex time to do this it would be when you are doing your own melt of junk!

I've smelted my own ingots, not a bar yet though, as the bars may require an actual kiln. I make couple ounce ingots, rings, pendants, etc...

I made these 2 cigar bands, one silver and one 10k. Also a few other pieces. It's very fun and rewarding, but time consuming and expensive. I use a crucible and torch.

I unfortunately don't have the equipment for bars, but hopefully someone here will see this and reach out, good luck!

I did for a while about 10 years ago. Blow torch and crucible. I was making two and 5 ounce buttons. And I made a few rings, but I can’t find the pics. Thanks for the post. You just motivated me. I’ve got some very beat up shipwreck reales that I’m going to melt and make into a hammered ring.

Unless your talking lbs.your probably better off doing it yourself (provided you are careful and follow the proper procedures,and PPE) there are zillion tutorials on the Internet for doing what you want to do on the scale you are talking about which if you paid to have done you would lose monetarily because of seeing what has happened to people who are careless(myself included) safety glasses,thick long sleeves and duct tape the glove openings to the sleeves when a hot metal drop falls into your glove and you pull it off it burns down below the skin level and you have to digggg it out

I don’t see the logic. You want to take a significant number of silver rings, which are much more valuable in the form of rings, and have someone else melt them into bars? And then give some more silver away to pay them for their services?

I get that it’s silver, so it’s not extremely valuable, but the difference between melt value and ring value is significant.

Recently, I’ve been selling off some jewelry finds to help with the cost of a new hookah diving system. I list every ring separately on Craigslist and FB Marketplace, because lots will attract jewelry resellers who want to pay you much less than a woman who likes the ring.

Last week I sold a modern .4 oz .925 silver ring for $45. The melt value would have been ~$10. If I were to melt 10 similar rings it would be like lighting a match to $350, or even more, if I had to pay someone else in silver to melt it for me. That’s 35+ dug .4 oz silver rings thrown in the garbage.

Again, doesn’t make much sense to me.

It isn’t like rings take up a lot of room, so just keep your silver in its jewelry form.

Done. I almost ruined it trying to solder the two pieces together. I failed twice. I ended up taking it to a jeweler and had them do it.

Old Post I know but I agree. So far I've been keeping my coins but any silver jewelry I find, I have been selling on CL or FBMP. Unfortunately I'm my area, it is loaded with people selling rings and jewelry. Unless it's a nice piece, I weigh it and then sell it at or above silver valve. Recently, I've sold a little silver Cross and ring for $10. Silver valve was probably only $3 or $4.

The best thing to do after selling those little items, I go to the car wash, coin machine or whatever and get that converted to quarters. If I find silver in the change, I'm still gaining. If I don't find silver, I throw all the quarters in my finds bucket and cash it in at the end of the year. It's a good easy to find extra silver coins.

I think alot depends on the type of ring...I have a couple of very thin and quite cheap looking silver rings, and nobody would really be that interested in buying them...On the other hand, genuine antique silver rings sell very well and at a premium...
