So, I went back to the farmhouse site where I found the Merc and button the other day and had another pretty good outing. Even though I was convinced after detecting there quite a few times last year that I had found pretty much all the “good stuff”, I am pleasantly surprised by the number of “quality” items I am finding this year. Just goes to show that there’s always a little more.
All-in all I found 8 Wheats, including one from 1917, which is one of the older Wheats I have found at this location. I also found a nice cosmetic case from the late 20s-early-30s and what I believe to be the outer frame of a Compact Case. At first I thought maybe it was the outer frame of a pocket watch, but now I’m leaning more towards it be a woman’s compact case frame…one that originally had a small mirror on one side and some powder on the other. I base this on the fact that there are [broken] hinges on both sides. I also found something that I’m assuming is a lead bar of some sort. If any of you have other ideas on what that could be, feel free to let me know.
My two favorite finds of the day, however, are the 1906 Canadian One Cent piece and the Chauffeur’s Badge from 1923. While the pin on the back of the badge was missing, I did actually find it in the same hole, which was pretty awesome. Gonna head back there this afternoon and try my luck a little more.
