What's your oldest coin?

I have a couple of unusual coins that I believe were worn as good luck charms. A 164 AD Romain coin, and a Mexican 2 Reale whose date is worn off, but my oldest US coin I found at a site on the Santa Fe Trail. An 1835 capped bust half dime. My Avatar.

Not bad for southwest Kansas.

Found a month ago, an 1864 two-cent piece. Thought it was old till I saw all these coins from the 1700's!

This was found on the edge of a steep bluff with very tall and thick ground cover on the hill side.

But I just spotted an area of the hill side that is just bare dirt under a canopy of trees and plan on hunting that soon.View attachment 629689View attachment 629690

She's not much to look at, but this 1693 William & Mary Hibernia halfpenny is my oldest identifiable coin. The 16 and the 93 are on either side of the crown.

I purposely avoided this thread, thinking that pesky east coast guys would parade *supposed* large cents. But you just HAD to go burst my bubble. Putting my name down, so that the system alerts me to your post. Eh ? You are cruel. Just plain cruel

In North America, 1853 dime(old for Montana). Not including older Chinese cash coins found. In Europe, 50 BC silver stater. My only stater found.

You'll get it eventually, especially since some coins from the 1800s circulated for decades. That 1864 IHP I was talking about was found at a c. 1900 house site.

Thats the hope!! Montana wasnt established until we'll into the late 1800s early 1900s so my finds arent as eye popping as other folks but im still hopeful that ill break into the 1800s club this year!
