I am getting ready to have some business/introduction cards made to present to landowners for detecting this summer. My question is what should I call myself? Metal detector sound like an item, not a hobby. Metal detectorologist? Treasure hunter? Relic and coin finder? I am at a loss, any ideas?

Bag the business card idea. Just introduce yourself and be friendly. If anyone hands me a business card they are history.

I live in rural Vermont, some of the best, old properties are owned by rich “ out of State” landowners. They are leery and skeptical of unannounced people showing up without any idea if they are legitimate detectors, or just casing the place for a robbery.
Your idea might work someplace, but I think I will try to look professional.

I don't use a business card. If, when I door knock, they say Yes... I don't need one. If, when I door knock, they say No... a business card is not going to help (unless in the remote chance they lost a wedding ring in the next week or two). If they are Not Home, I suppose I could leave one on the door? They are NOT going to call me or email me (unless lost ring). They may remember me because of the card when I try again... not sure it would help with getting the Yes. IMHO. I have had very good luck. I am much more surprised at a No than I am at a Yes.

Advertise yourself as an lawn aeration company and charge them $ for the pleasure of digging up their yard :D

I kid, I kid!

What about "Metal Detecting Hobbyist" or "Metal Detecting Historian" or "Archaeologically Inspired Excavator" I don't know.

I would NOT use "Professional Swinger" though, that was a bad idea let me tell you.

Detectorist or metal detectorist carries the best connotation. Treasure/beach digger implies messy digging with little care. Metal detector guy implies "the guy with beeping thing" Relic hunter or coin shooter is mostly a term we use.

I keep my cards in the back pocket and introduce my self as a history enthusiast and go from there. As a closer sometimes I use the card or provide it if they ask for it.
