Question, I was pulling rusty nails all day, then in one hole, I pull out a rusty nail, and something that appeared to be a broken nail, but absolutely no rust on it. See photo
I put a magnet on it, so I know it metal but clean as a whistle. Have y’all seen this before?

I always wondered why a modern square cement nail would go into cement between bricks and a regular round nail would not?
3. Concrete nails are typically made from hardened steel, which is stronger and more resistant to bending or breaking when hammered into hard surfaces.

4. The tip of a concrete nail is often blunt instead of sharp. This design helps prevent the nail from splitting or cracking the concrete or masonry it is being driven into.

I always wondered that as well. I've never used them.

Is that a groove cut/milled into the left side (in the photo) of that object that looks like a square nail fragment? Your statement regarding the magnet wasn't clear. Was the object able to be attracted to your magnet (such as iron would be)? It is very unrusty appearing if it was extracted from the same ground with frequent nearby (close horizontally and vertically) rusted nails. Could it somehow have been a fresh drop? Could it be copper? Any verdigris?

Could be a ship nail if made of brass or bronze. Also used in wooden boats. Wooden water troughs.

I have lots of square nails I have dug that look remarkably new in condition. That's what your asking sir ?
