I don’t remember anything being mentioned in the Storm media blitz about the Vortex requiring users to have an acute elephant-like hearing capability to use the Vortex’s “New Technology” algorithm.

If you dig by nuance in the audio, you can hear it hitting those targets just fine. If you want it to behave like a Minelab, it won’t, you should get a Minelab.

Training your ears is a worthwhile endeavor that won’t go away. You can accumulate it over time or spend a lot of time training your ears how to recognize the difference in targets.

Coming from a machine where the norm for me was to have the threshold barely audible and listening for a slight raise in the threshold I get the ear training thing very well. You say the vortex works as it should for the most part. I say there Arte better options for less money and better options for the same.... Some folks even think there are better options for less. The bottom line is that the Vortex isn't the Bang for the Buck that people were told it was.
Garrett should do the right thing and pull the vortex off the market, apologize to those who purchased them and refund their money.
Garrett can then focus full time on developing and producing a multi-frequency detector that works.

I don't seem to have the problems the youtube guys apparently have but i just hunt beaches and to a lesser extent sports fields.I think mine is up to 3 gold and maybe 10 silver,maybe once on 9.08 i was working a fire pit and an aluminum can might have locked it up but by the time i check my settings it was over so i never thought about it until i read some of the doomsday guys talking about it
The fan boys are nothing compared to what has happened on another detecting forum. I believe they now have a Garrett shill as a moderator. He censors anything negative (and true) about Garrett. He posts thread after thread saying how much he’s finding with this dumpster fire and down playing how bad it is. Here’s one statement “Even with the current glitches, it is still useable. You just have to give it a 3-4 second rest occasionally when it retains a strong signal from a previous target.” That’s laughable but what’s not is people being fooled into spending their money on this when they can get a problem free and better performing, Score, Elite and probably a Legend for less money. It’s worse than sad they can’t read post on threads like this one. That’s why many are spending more time here.
BTW I do hope they get this fixed.

Think I know of that other forum. Have never been a member. Believe I trolled it a few times just looking. I found what I read was alot of delusional writings. Like aliens came down and zapped their brains. More looney than myself. At least a few here appreciate some of my expertise and nonsense !

I’m beginning to think that you’re just being an agitating troll, because I find it highly unlikely that you could hit reply on that post when you know that the other detectorists posting in this thread, combined, have a couple(few?) of hundred years of detecting under their belts, and actually be serious.
If it’s autism, or something else on the spectrum, we’d be understanding and would simply view your posts in that regard.

I'm with you CW. Agitating Troll is my guess also, we do get a few people here on the Friendly Forum whose sole purpose is to argue nonsense with anyone. Heck, even me with my AT Pro can see I have a much better detector than the current edition of the Vortex.

In the user posted video, I can hear the detector hitting the coins.
The Manticore manual states that it will behave the same under certain conditions. I can duplicate the same behavior on the M in certain conditions. For reasons stated above, it’s more prevalent on the Vortex. The Manticore does a much better job in that situation.
What the Vortex is doing in the posted video is called by some, a halfway hit, it’s not a clean hit. All detectors will do it under certain conditions. Law of Physics.
Manticore Manual: “Overlapping or Adjacent Targets; Targets that are adjacent or overlapping can influence one‑another, resulting in misidentification. A common effect is that a weaker target will be 'dragged' closer to the stronger target, causing a different Target ID than if the targets were detected individually. Targets of a similar type and signal strength can move towards each‑other, 'meeting halfway'. Conversely, if one target is very dominant, then the weaker target may not be detected at all.”
The Vortex does an averaging process. The half-way hit will be more prevalent on it, but all detectors will do it at some point.

I do believe most all detectors do this when targets are very close together. It's why I'm a firm believer in digging just about everything. Add a salt , iron beach and many targets will be miss identified. But I thought the Manti with the screen is supposed to help this problem. But the Vortex video shows locking on a large junk target and in the same sweep , 3' over is a quarter that it doesn't pick up. This is a HUGE problem. Detectors aren't supposed to do this. The thing is junk. No way to sugarcoat it.

This newest problem on the Vortex isn't going to matter much on non trashy sites. Even on trashy sites though, it will still find good stuff but will completely ignore a lot of other good stuff that even a cheapo detector would find.
Garrett tried to fix this new problem but only succeeded in a very limited way. I suspect Garrett couldn't properly fix the problem via software, because it's a hardware problem. If it is indeed a hardware problem, Garrett should be issuing a recall.
