Like many places the last few weeks have ben cold in Kansas and with three inches of ice on the ponds it wasn't worth MD through frozen ground. I found myself watching TV and every show/ movie/ commercial not really paying attention to what was on but thinking "that would be a great place to hunt". However over the weekend it did finally warm up enough to get some detecting in. My first outing was Sunday at a nearby state park which started in the early 60's. Even though the temps were in the fifties under trees the ground was still frozen. I was hoping to find some silver but only found about a dollar in dimes and peniies, all from the "70s. My second outing was Monday afternoon at an old elementary school that was active from 1900 to about 1960. It has been hunted to death I assume because I don't find much the last 4 or 5 times I went there. I did find three ugly pennies: 1898 IHP, and two wheaties 1918 and 1940. Yesterday I managed to get out to a small park in Downtown Manhattan (the Little Apple) and decided to do a little curb stripping. I hit a deep signal next to the sidewalk on my nox that was 27-30 and I thought I for sure it was going to be silver but after digging down about 8 inches out popped "Old Buck", a presidential token for James Buchanan. Never seen one before but apparently these were made by the Scovill Manufacturing Company of Waterbury, Connecticut in the mid 1900's. Hard to read on my token so I added a photo from the internet. No silver but there is always tomorrows hunt......

Great historical find there. Usually when I dig a high tone next to a sidewalk, it's a nail.
