Spanish-American war or WWI pin

Recovered this pin yesterday in a mid-1800s park.

I found that it's from Spanish-American war or WWI.

Is there a way to figure out which war, or did the wars occur close enough in time that the same pins were used?

They were pretty much the same in those years even up close to World War II. But if I had to guess I would say World War I.

hard to tell. not precious though.

I think they are gilded(?) pot metal. I had one that was bent and broke like pot metal does.

It looks like the 2nd infantry regiment was assigned to Camp Sherman Ohio in the post WWI years. Had a long history in the Indian wars, Philippines, Spanish American war. If you found it in Ohio that may indicate the era.
