Replying to old threads

Not sure what the feelings are on this forum about replying to old threads. I've been a member of forums in the past where if you "resurrected" and old thread, people would get upset. Other forums, people are a bit more lighthearted about it.

There have been a few times I asked google questions I have about metal detecting, and it brings up a post here. Just today, I had a question that brought up a post from 2009. I wasn't sure if forum etiquette would be to go ahead and reply to an old thread, or to maybe start a new thread referencing the old one.

If it’s a really long old thread I’d start a new one and reference the old one, because that old long thread will show up in the new posts list which links to the start, not your post in it. But seriously it’s just a preference thing and either way nothing to get worked up about to me.

You'll always have the person that needs to reply "this thread is 12 years old" regardless if it's relevant in discussion. If you want to comment on it, comment.

I see no problem posting on an old thread. As long as you know that the original poster probably won’t reply. I’m sure there are plenty of good old threads worth bringing back.

Bring it! No one here really cares about hurting someone's "feelings". I've learned more important information by looking through older posts about detecting in general, what areas I should be hitting from way smarter guys than me giving me advice. Post away and quit over thinking.

I have no issues with bringing back and old thread. I've read quite a few and most of the time it has info I've been thinking about. GITTUR DUNN

My thoughts it brings confusion a little at first , if your not watching the thread date , however I have also googled some questions, and came back to a old thread on Friendly, question answered , so this does benefit some questions some might have , instead of asking /posting a new thread to get answers , I find it beneficial for information , thumbs up
