Watching the news this morning in 2026 65% of the diamond rings sold this year were lab grown, I think a special machine is used to tell the difference, I think the diamond testers out now can't tell. Last year it was 52% were lab grown that were sold... They also say the natural diamonds prices are dropping because of the quality of the lab grown stones.

I watched a documentary many years ago about diamonds. The mines they come from and behind the scenes broker deals being made on both the raw diamonds and cut diamonds.
According to the people that made that documentary, the whole diamond jewelry market is nothing more than a massive scam. Diamonds are nearly worthless. The only value they actually have is in the industrial market for use in cutting wheels and other such tools.
They talked at great length as to how the entire scam got started decades ago.

You cannot tell the difference. Chemistry wise they are 100% identical. Color wise might give a clue. Pretty consistent and close to perfect. I have purchased a ring and earrings and tested them on my testers. Both passed the test.

Prices on the lab growns have come down and now have captured a large portion of sales forcing the drop in mined diamonds.

From what I've been told, the only giveaway is that lab grown can be "too" perfect because natural diamonds typically have some kind of flaws. But I've never seen enough of them to know

I don't worry about it, with the nasty rocky and muddy beaches I hunt finding a big diamond ring not on my list, I prefer the old heavy gold signet rings.

You cannot tell the difference. Chemistry wise they are 100% identical. Color wise might give a clue. Pretty consistent and close to perfect. I have purchased a ring and earrings and tested them on my testers. Both passed the test.

True , I believe jewelers do have a machine that tells the difference, but that machine is high dollar , the normal diamond testers give a positive diamond signal , I have no negative beef with Lab Grown
