Was up in the Spokane area for an antique insulator and bottle show, had part of the afternoon free the day before the show, had brought along my AT Pro and was able to detect for about 3 hours. I headed off to an area that looked like it had older homes, and as I was driving along, saw a guy on his front porch, ca 1915 home, so pulled over and visited for a bit. He mentioned that the curb had been heavily detected by someone in the last two years, also some of the yards in the neighborhood, including part of his front yard. Well... I love a challenge and he gave me the ok to double check the yard, and the curb being city property, was ok also.
Started in on the curb, dry dead grass, not much, definitely detected before, I did get a WA State tax token, a Chuck E. Cheese token, and a couple of Jefferson Nickels. Finding nickels told me that most of the high tones / conductors were already gone. Tried the yard and it turned out great! I ended up with about 12 wheat cents, including a 1909-P and 1912-S, THREE Buffalo Nickels (one of my favorite coins), and a very nice 1928-S Mercury Dime, along with some more modern coins. Very pleasant and friendly owner who loved to visit, so that was fun.
Caught the lady in the home diagonal to this yard in her car, got the OK there, a newer home with a weedy front yard. Navigating between tall clumps of weeds, I did get a few more wheat cents, a cool old key, a B 29 marked bronze pin, a Catholic pendant (non precious), and a Disston & Sons tool knob. Also found near the road, a 1892 Barber Dime. One of the thinnest, worn and in poor shape. The 1892-S is a key date, this one looks like it may have a mint mark but the coin is in such rough shape on the back... any ideas? As I finished this property, I saw the lady directly across from this home coming home, got the OK there, a 1908 yard. Just some wheat cents and a few modern coins. All in all, a very fun hunt with some cool finds, hope to get back to that area! Pictures follow thank you for your interest!
