Greetings from The Netherlands my friends,

I got my first Metal Detector, a Tesoro Golden Sabre. Got it for free because it was broken and now i'm trying to fix it. When you turn it on you hear a low 'plop' from the speaker and that's it. Online i found several info and schematics with which i did my first checks. The coil looks ok. I found the pin-out and both coils are 22 ohms. I found 2 schematic diagrams of the pcb, of which one is a little blurry and not good enough to read. In one schematic the ic's seem to need +8v and -5v. I do not measure -5v. I do not have a pcb layout with the part numbers on it so that makes troubleshooting a little more difficult. I found a schematic which mentions measuring points in it, but i don't know what i should measure there. 2 components seem to be missing but maybe that was original?

Can someone help me with this? I do have an oscilloscope if that helps. Thank you.

Hi Gert, One quick thing to check, does the audio through the headphone jack work? If so then just use some headphones.

A good place for info on tesoro pcbs and other detector info is http://www.geotech1.com/forums/forum.php

Set up an account and post the question their and you should get some help. Carl on this forum runs the geotech site.

Hi @Gert Warringa .
Starting to measure the voltages is always a good idea. So you have the +12V & the +8V, but missing the -5V.
Not knowing your electronic skills but the presence of an oscar lets hope the best.
So may be the pdf will help a little further.
