I have been out twice since I dipped my Garrett and no wear shown. Multiple coats can be applied to make it thicker. You can get this at Ace hardware.

I tried plasti dip a few times. It always peels off too quickly for my liking. Even with multiple dips. But I'm pretty harsh on my pinpointers, so it would likely be more effective for people who don't dig with their pinpointers. If I go to scan the plug or ground and get no signal, I'm not afraid to shove that thing down an inch or two to find it. Looks like a nice cobalt blue flower vase in the background too šŸ˜ let us know how it works out for you long term please!

You could also mask off the area you want protected and use a rattle can of Rhino Coat. That stuff is tough as nails and if you prepare the plastic on the pp it should stick pretty well.

I mixed up some epoxy, put in in a tube a little wider than the pinpointer. Then just dipped the pointer in. Came out perfect. It goes up about 3ā€. Very durable. It was the 5 min. expoxy. Itā€™s also clear which is a bonus.

I've been using this Carrot for more years than I can remember. I just bought the $6 tip protectors (4) and have never had a problem since. That was last year.

And no, I don't dig with mine LOL.

Never thought of epoxy, great idea!

Thats a great idea. All of us who have been at this hobby for a few years know what a pinpointer can look like after a couple years . I wish I had a pic of mine at end of last summer . there was actually a hole right thru the tip . I was actually astonished that it was still functioning. But I had to get it protected immediately. I actually mixed up some two part epoxy and patched it up first , but that only lasted 4 or 5 hunts. Then I found these little rubber tips that are totally not designed for this , but I stuck it on my Propointer using some "Liquid Nails" adhesive. I would imagine any kind of good waterproof glue would do it , especially if the tip of your pin pointer is already a bit roughed up. It's lasted about 6 months on mine so far and doesn't seem to be hurting yet.
If anyone would like one I'd ship out a couple for a couple bucks. I would think you would want to grind down the scraper edge if you have any edge left. That would probably give it a better fit . I'll attach some pix of mine . I take it out 3 days a week and it seems to be ok.

I have tried those table leg protectors and it's tough to not lose them so yes, gluing them is a must. So far, the plastic-dip is holding out fine.
