northeast coastal storm this weekend

Good luck out there and bring home chunky cheddar!
I wish I lived closer than 11 hours away.
I saw some twigs on the ground could have been brought down by the weight of the drizzle, now and then I see the trees swaying in the breeze... Monday thru Thursday was much more windy than this storm so far... our winds are out of the north which will cut across the dry sand on a diagonal,to get slopes ground down we need ENE winds... I'll check out a couple of beaches hopefully something has been going on closer to shore...

Been watching Webcams, not much in terms of erosion so far. Im going either way, would be nice to see a good sized cut though 😅 been far too long

They always build these storms up... maybe on the coast its different and I am only a couple miles from coast its a slight breeze and on and off drizzle with peaks of sun here in SW CT

Yeah I'm sure stuff is moving around but, definitely not as it was built up to be. Still early but, I'm going regardless. Apparently the southern facing beaches are seeing the worst of it from what I'm reading.

No sun, very windy, spotty rain showers here, about 1.5 hours inland MA.
Looked at several beaches today, nothing impressed me north winds only hope tommorrow when wind changes to SE, Dry sand was flat and smoothed out, tides came up high and probably ended up in streets as sand was on the roads of the beaches I checked out. You could see where the wave action brought in sand to cover the slopes, gonna give it a few days to settle before I try... gonna rain thru Monday as this thing slow moving, 24k in CT with no power, I am ok though, I saw 5 trees uprooted closer to the coast, we been getting waves of heavy rain then nothing for a couple hours. We have had just under an inch of rain so far they saying on weather channel another 3 to 5 tonight and tomorrow, not holding my breath lol....storm going to take a hard left turn head for New Jersey sit and spin there until it starts moving again tomorrow, by it sitting there we will have our heaviuest rainfall and highest winds, they calling for storm to still be out there until Monday here and Tuesday up your way...

...... gonna give it a few days to settle before I try.......

Sometimes, when conditions are SO fierce (swells, tides, on-shore-winds, etc....) that : Instead of mother nature picking a parallel to erode down at, the waves/water instead simply GO OVER the high-tide line (and dunes, and into the streets). Creating a big mess and a seemingly un-eroded (albeit messy) beach.

In those situations ^ ^ (at least where I'm at), we discovered that the trick is to come back, as a you say, a few days later . And then mother nature seems to "rob sand from up high" (to then create slopes, scallops, etc......), to fill in the off-shore voids . Voids hat had been being created off-shore, during the zenith. Ie.: As if the erosion had been OFF SHORE (beyond where we can see with the naked eye). And in the coming subsequent days, mother nature THEN moves the sand around , to fill in those voids.

Good luck Craig !

I do the same thing Tom, I usually wait a couple days and go back to these beaches, the track has changed a bit it was going to retrograde back towards coast sitting near Atlantic City but it passed AC and it looks like its going to head towards northern NJ or NY which is closer to us here and we went from having no storm surge to having the possiblity of having a 4 foot surge on top of the already higher than normal tides, I'll go by again tomorrow just to see if anything changed we had north winds but they are changing to ENE as storm gets closer and that will erode the slopes which I prefer to hunt over going in water, I haven't hunted the water in years everything I have found in past 12 years has been from the slopes not water.

Looks like around 12 noon today you'll be getting the ENE winds Craig. Hopefully it'll rip that sand out for you.
Good luck out there!

They already out of NE sometime during night we lost power, woke up to blinking everything lol... took my lab out this morning to do her business and a gust of wind came thru which she didn't like and wanted to go in, I said no do your thing then we can go in lol... I think our top gust was this morning around 4 am it was about 55mph for most part just breezy lots of leaves down some trees but our ground saturated it doesn't take much to topple a tree when you get the amount of rain we have had all year ground is soft and mucky.

Neihbor made a mistake, he wanted to build up his backyard ordered 3 triaxle dump trucks of topsoil each truck as it went in backyard across front lawn sank deeper and deeper now he has to hire guys to repair front yard as well with foot deep depressions in front yard and they found his drainage system a previous owner installed he now has a pile of drain pipe he has to repair lol..

In 3 days of this storm we only have 1.56 inches rain so far.

we're inland about 5 miles and luckily didn't loose any trees just a bunch of dead branches and leaves. Have to get out and look around down at the water. To me everything gets over hyped, sensationalized. I guess better safe than sorry. I realize a lot of people did get affected and I feel for them

I spoke with BigAl up your way flattened out the beaches... same as here... I am so sick of this rain not its just heavy drizzle total for this storm 2.30 inches as if a couple minutes ago for Norwalk, last week we had 5.94 inches in under 4 hours it flooded so many basements around here... I may if I'm bored go look at a beach or two today but I think its waste of time, we haven't had a decent storm since Sandy.

Unless its a major storm beaches down here are protected from large waves by Long Island NY then less than a mile in front of the beaches are islands more protection, our waves the other day had no white caps on them just slow rollers... https://images.search.yahoo.com/sea...WwFhSf6gQ&sign=JTzxZSZz0SPA&sigt=JTzxZSZz0SPA

Here is a map showing you the islands https://images.search.yahoo.com/sea...1200-h630-p-k-no-nu/Chart_Norwalk-Islands.jpg

It's called getting in your gas guzzler truck and driving over to where the destruction is. Stop with the snowflake excuses!
