I've gone out to some public areas near me, and I had about the same level of success. My last haul netted me about .35 cents in clad and a bag full of trash. This after about three hours "work." But I did have my first sighting of another detectorist (that wasn't on an organized / pay hunt) in the wild. Almost like a Sasquatch, when he saw me he retreated to cover and left.
Also went gold panning at Coker Creek. Done that twice now, and I actually found some gold. Of course, you needed a microscope to see it (literally), but it was there.
