I'm Garry, just joined the forum. I thought I had found my first coin with the new Vanquish 440 but not to be. This is probably a token of some sort, 3/4" in diameter and non-magnetic. This was found in my yard were we built our new house six years ago. Rumor has it that there was an old house here at one time.

Hi Garry, nice find! Looks like a button to me too, and a nice old one at that. Keep us updated on your finds in the yard. You might be onto some old stuff....

I'm pretty sure it's a shotshell from a 12 ga. before ~1965 shotshell had brass on one end but the other was paper. The paper wasted of & gets what you got. If you clean off the end, you usually see letters & can see ~roughly old Years.

Welcome to the forum from another N. Michigander. I have to agree with Craig, it looks like a button to me as well. Good going.

Hoser and Craig are right. Looks like a gilt button reverse. The blemish in the dead center would have been where the clasp/loop was. And the dimpled ring was one design that some gilt buttons sported. So it'd date from 1790s to 1850s or 60s.
