National Geographic.....Diggers

I just fear the ramifications of a bunch of new people who think they're going to get rich quick, leaving holes everywhere, breaking laws, causing a major crackdown from local authorities and new laws by beaurucrats.

My guess is that 99% of what they find is planted. You can't make a very good show out of someone digging 203 pull tabs and one '64 Rosie.

i understnad what you guys are saying but does everyone relize the the ODN An versus have been showing metal detecting shows now for the last 5 or 6 years

I just hope the push the code of ethics a little.. I always wanted to see a metal detecting show.. but I'm like you guys.. I don't want it to ruin the hobby. Not that it will do much to my area.. since all parks are already off limits.

How was it?

Entertaining.

The guys are pretty funny. I guess if you have a TV show you get access to
spots that "normal" people only dream about. My concern is that land owners will see the show and then when we try to get permission they're all "Oh you want to be like those guys on TV". Who knows, it might work in our favor.
Seriously though, I don't see the show lasting long. Niche audience.

Here's an older vid of the guys.

It wasn't great but wasn't horrible in my eyes. I did get sick of the little sayings these guys kept throwing out. You can only hear somebody say "I found some juice" so many times. Or I had a "slamming" target. It will probably be like some of the other shows and won't last real long. I think most people watching it will realize they won't have access to the places these guys hunt. Either way there will probably be a flood of good used detectors out there once people start buying stuff and are too stupid to realize that these shows are edited and you don't find hundreds of target in a 20 minute time frame. I am still a newbie so I am still in the mode of soaking up everything I can. I am sure more experience MD'ers won't care for the show at all. Anybody on here know these guys' didn't know if they were members on any of the forums or not?

They definitely get to hunt some places that most of us will never get to hunt, unless Nat Geo is backing us.

Also, most of my "slamming hits" are cans or big rusty iron. I wish they would show that!

You know, their finds weren't really that great especially considering the sites they hunted. If they were planting finds they should have done better. They were also realistic in the amount of time hunted - like at that "rev" house where they hunted well until dark and only got ONE "nectar" coin and some buttons. And it was on the way to the car! We've all done that before. I would have thought there would have been more good coins.

Besides, one would have to get off the couch to find said 203 pull tabs at all. ~

I think most folks are on a ten foot tether to the refrigerator nowdays.

I thought the video was pretty good. The guys are funny as well and that chemistry is probably what drew NG to them for a show.

But anytime you compress all of the "good" finds like that, you get the impression that that is all they find, but with the editing all the "bad" targets are left out except an occasional few to break up the streak they seem to be on. I'm sure if you looked at the raw footage there would probably be hours of them digging all the junk. Those crews most likely film every single dig and put in the good ones for the show. Just my two V nickels worth.

I liked it! The guys were funny, The targets were real and the best part was, They were using the AT-PRO on the wet/water  (nothing wrong with that, But not the ideal MD'er to use on salt) and they were using a cheapo scoop that my wife use on the drysand!
