Hi everyone, Caleb from New Zealand here, Im new to the forum and thought I would share the story of my best ever find.
This happened back in April of 2023, I had driven around detecting multiple spots and barely finding anything all day apart from junk and modern coins, I thought I would stop at one last spot on the way home, was an area where an old house once stood.
After about an hour detecting and finding nothing I started walking back to the car when I suddenly got a beautiful high tone. It turned out to be an 1850s shop token. I started sweeping the immediate area and got a mid tone straight away. In the hole about 6 inches down was a gold coin! Put it in the sunlight and saw it was a 1861 Sydney mint full sovereign in beautiful condition! That turned out to be the first of four gold coins, three full sovereigns and one half sovereign dating from 1852 to 1861. There was also another shop token and three silver coins, the oldest being a 1817 shilling. Everything was found within about 10 square feet. Until then I had never found a gold coin and I haven’t since. Was such a surreal moment and one I’ll never forget! IMG_7972.jpegIMG_7977.jpegIMG_7974.jpegIMG_7973.jpegIMG_7975.jpegIMG_7976.jpeg

Way to come in with a bang! What is the value of your finds? Looks incredible.

Thanks Mark, should be a fair bit of value in them as the condition is very good, one has full lustre and looks to be uncirculated. Also they are quite low mintage years being early Sydney mints. They are currently at NGC awaiting grading
