I got out detecting for only 2 hours this morning. Probably my shortest-ever outing with my detector since I usually make the day of it. I was near some wetlands and the moment I stepped out of my truck I had a swarm of mosquitoes around my head. I had on my big floppy boonie hat with net draped over my head and shoulders and was overdressed in boots and long sleeve tee over a tee and thick jeans. I have never seen mosquitoes like this before. I had a cloud around me and they were crawling all over the netting around my face and neck. It was so hot and humid. They weren't able to bite me but the sound alone was sickening.
I was on it before I called it quits. Recently I found a similar complete Georgian shoe buckle and later pocket watch case. I have a nice collection of complete crotal bells including a silver plate one. Wish this one was in better shape as it is my largest yet. I like the oil lamp glass top. I often find the lamp workings.
I may have to wait a couple weeks to get back out there. Having said that, and after a night's rest, I may go deeper into the woods tomorrow away from wetlands and kettle holes. Last week I was doing tree work in 90 degree humid weather and it took a toll. Sitting in the AC now feels good.
