I use 2 regions all tones with region 1 set up to cover vdi 1-3 and to sound like my iron, this covers any coke and super small bits of foil, which I don't want to dig and region 2 starts at vdi 4 and pitch 20, rising up to vdi 99 and pitch 50, this gives a nice sliding scale for all the (possible) good stuff!

Isn't the reason not to because it drives you nuts hearing the constant "bong bong bong" of the iron signal? I think I've heard you mention this tactic and have never been able to grasp how you use it and keep your sanity. But maybe I'm misunderstanding.

I nearly always hunt in All Metal mode as it lets you get the most information about what's going under the coil...

Hard to do sometimes, but it is the best way to go.

For you guys hunting in all metal: Okay, turning down the volume and tone makes sense on how to do it without driving yourself crazy. Can you give examples of the actual settings you use for these? I would assume volume down to 1/4 of the target tones volume and tone low should work.

I like to hear everything - for me hearing the gentle “thump - thump - bump” of iron, and more specifically, how that iron sound and rate is changing, is indispensably important information. It tells me if I’m in the right spot in a farm field, if my settings/swing speed are still correct or may need adjustment, if my coil selection might need to be altered, etc, etc. A couple pics are worth a thousand words for settings, I guess:

This phenomenon is happening with me as well, most lately with clad coins. I hit a well defined target on center line, dig out the plug, re-scan the hole and plug and get nothing. Then I go in with the pinpointer and there it is. Happens more often in loose dirt when the target is still in the hole.
