So with my "research" of metal detectors mostly MDF, is there a brand list my smooth brain doesn't see? I know of Garrett, Minelab and Nokta, are there any others?

I thought so because most threads are about those 2 but i try not to miss-out on "known" brands in new to me things.

Minelab, XP and Nokta are top tier.
Fisher hasn’t had any new machines as of late but they make very good detectors and you can get great deals directly from the factory on feepay.
Quest is lesser known company that makes very good detectors at low prices too.
I wouldn’t recommend any others.

Ok...XP, Fisher and Quest. XP up with ML&N.

what about Garrett? I have a vague memory of seeing them in a store before the internets were born and their still around.

Time has made it easier for people looking for a new detector choice. I'll say 6-8 years ago it would have been harder to make a decision with all the big brands there was at that time. Whites and Tesoro are now in the history books, and there may be one or more I have forgotten about.

Garrett AT Pro is still a great machine. The beach guys like to put it down, but anyone who detects in the woods will attest to how well it finds the good stuff. I've got drawers full of pre-1900 coins, buttons and relics thanks to my AT Pro, not to mention the occassional gold finds!

I use a Minelab Excalibur II at the beach, and a Garretts AT Pro, everywhere else. Got a good deal on a used Minelab Equinox 800 recently, only have two trips with it, so far. I am NOT an expert on all the brands/models, but I’m very happy with what I have.

Yes the At Pro is very good. Paying nearly $600 for a new one is crazy. Lots for sale used for half that and they are rugged.

OKM comes with a lot of specious claims and vanishingly few results. A magnetometer that detects gold... a bionic LRL that locates treasure 6 miles away... seriously?
In another thread about 10 days ago, I asked that OKM (rep?)...

"Does OKM have any peer reviewed, credible, scientific evidence that the LRLs they sell work as described?"

He hasn't been back since lol.

I think i have brands to look through, of what they have and see reviews of. Garret, Minelab, Nokta and XP.
