Hello guys and gals. Just wanted to post this up and share my experience with the manticores unmasking abilities. Was detecting an old homestead down here in Alabama when I came across a spot with several mixed signals. The only reason I decided to dig in was that I was getting a strong 99 on what I thought to be a dime sized target. After digging two Pullman’s and a scrap of foil, I kept getting the good signal.about 8” down out popped this chunk of melted material. Wasn’t what I hoped for but it did test as silver. What I’m getting out is if you look at my picture, you can clearly see the dime sized target in the melted blob. That in my opinion iis pretty damn impressive. To. E covered in junk and still be able to separate out a good dime sized target underneath. Guess I should also add that this was with the standard 11” coil and running the machine in general factory presets with no changes at all. Anyway, thanks for checking out my find and feel free to share your experience with the manticores unmasking abilities

The whole thing looks like a big glob of aluminum. Did you break open the dimensions size circle and see what's in it? Cool looking piece but be nice to know what it is.

Yes it’s a big melted blob but what I’m getting at is the fact that I was able to pull it out from under several pieces of trash. May not seem like much to the more experienced detectorists but it blew my mind, lol. There’s no way in hell my last machine would have picked up on this not to mention be able to separate it from trash. Just thought I would share

I agree with others, a melted aluminum turd. And yes they sound great. As far as unmasking capabilities I have to say I am very pleased with the Manticore thus far.I have pulled nails out of the same hole, removed near by canslaw and pulltabs after I recover a keeper target just to see what was hiding it, and it has been an eye opener for me. Good luck. By the way, what recovery speed are you using ?

You said it tested as silver, what part was tested That showed it was silver ?

I believe my recovery speed was set to 3. Was told to run it low. The round part of the blob in the picture is what I tested. Feels a lot heavier than aluminum. But I trust what you guys say. Been looking at stuff like this a lot longer than I have

I heard a rumor that the Manticore's un-masking see-through ability was SO GOOD, that : You can take a silver quarter, and put it on the front seat of a 1955 Chevy. Then you wave the coil from the outside of the car. And (gasp) the Manticore will correctly TID it as quarter !! Simply amazing !

But try this test next : Take a dainty earring stud. Put it under an iron manhole cover. Will you still get an accurate TID on the earring stud, while getting zero response from the manhole cover ?

There's little to no difference in the unmasking performance of most modern SMF detectors.

For unmasking in nonferrous trash, a low frequency is king and all modern SMF will do equally as well. Use around 5kHz or the detectors lowest weighted SMF mode. If the detector doesn't have a low weighted land SMF mode, then Beach Wet Mode which is low frequency should suffice.

For unmasking in ferrous trash, iron bias is king. As long as the iron bias is set accordingly, all the modern SMF detectors will unmask in iron about equally.

I have heard rumors that the Sonic Coin Whisperer 3000 will ace this test just saying . sube

I think I am going to hold out for a while till the first update comes out .
You know the fairy lights around the display I know it doesn't add much to depth but man they do look cool with the altering colors .sube

On the manticore, I have found anything that rings at a 99 is usually giving an odd echo sound and is also junk.
I was about to start ignoring 98s & 99s, I'm talking I get an initial high tone in the 80s or low 90s then it will climb to 98-99. Then drop in to the 50s. Yep junk. But about a month or so back I got one that hit 99 and it turned out to be a deep wheat. And about 5 feet or so away a 98 was a deep memorial. And neither had any junk around that I heard. Don't remember if the #s dropped. And recently a deeper silver dime rang in at 99.
The echo sound you mention I call it hollow, and I've had silver signals that sounded hollow.
I only have maybe a little over 100 hours on the Manticore, so much to learn and questions to be answered.
