I have a brand new Legend running v1.09 and I'm a little confused about something. Does a Factory Default remove all Custom settings SAVED in your User Profile?

Are you referring to resetting the Legend to factory default's or detecting in factory defaults

if you are referring to resetting to factory defaults then yes when you reset to factory default it wipes everything including any custom settings you have set up in the legend, except for the timer that tracks the amount of time you have used your Legend, factory resetting the Legend does not reset the usage tracking timer, the clock that tells you the time it also resets that

if you are referring to detecting in factory default settings then no it does not do anything, the factory default settings are a group of settings that allows you to just select one of those and start detecting, I will say the factory preset settings are pretty good to start learning on to familiarize yourself with the Legend

I do have a question for you though did your Legend come with 1.09 already installed or did you have to update to 1.09

Thanks for the reply and the info. My Legend came loaded with v1.09.

The "Factory Defaults" setting I am referring to is described on page 25 of the online Legend users manual and I quote:

"Reverting Back to Factory Defaults
After selecting the user profile in the settings menu, press and
hold the Pinpoint & Accept/Reject Button until letters Fd appear
on screen. Fd will disappear after 2 seconds."

It just seemed a bit odd to me that one would perform a Factory Default procedure after setting up a Profile.

It does seem counter-intuitive resetting to factor defaults after setting up custom profiles, but it is something Nokta recommends after doing software updates. On the Nokta website, for example, if you download and install the Threshold Volume Update, the webpage says in red bold lettering, "ONCE YOUR DEVICE HAS BEEN UPDATED, PLEASE REVERT BACK TO FACTORY DEFAULTS!"

When you do that, the custom profile settings get wiped.

Yea I though so too FLOOD. I've created a couple Profiles so far and haven't done a Factory Default reset. Just doesn't make sense to me. Guess I'll see what happens. Hopefully my unit won't crash or blowup or something.

You are reading that wrong, a factory reset is only required if you update to a new firmware and since your Legend came with the newest version you do not have to perform the factory reset procedure, until a new update is released to us and that is coming any time in the near future, you do not do a factory reset when you set up a custom user profile as that would be counter productive LOL

again a factory reset is only required when a new software has been installed on the Legend

The section you quoted and pasted is for if you want to delete just one custom user profile you have set up, as apposed to doing a complete factory reset

to reset a custom user profile you click on the little man then click the up arrow to go into the custom user profiles there are 4 little men in that, say you have set up a custom user setting in 1-4 of the little men select the one that you want to change or delete click the right arrow and you will see it has now added two circular lines to which ever little man you are on hit the pinpoint reject button if you want to delete those setting completely, if you just want to change things in that little man do not hit the right arrow hit the up arrow do your changes and then go back into the setup for custom user profiles select the little man you want to change settings in and then hit the pinpoint reject button you have now saved your new settings to that little man, you can save 4 custom user profiles to each little man one for each mode park, field, beach and gold modes I do not recommend setting up all 16, my recommend setting up three for each mode at the most that way you keep 1 for each mode at factory settings

There are two different resets, one does a complete factory reset and the other is to reset just the user profiles that you have saved, I have some custom user profiles saved for park and field modes I have set them up in user profiles 2 and 3 little men, I have saved 2 each in park and field modes for a total of 4 custom settings rather than do a complete factory reset I can reset just one of my custom user settings or all, I keep custom user setting #1 little man so I can go to a factory default when ever I decide to, the way Nokta did this is actually pretty smart but also a little confusing, you can set up 4 for each little man and I believe you can use just one to set up four custom user settings but I have not attempted setting my custom user settings up for one mode in one single little man but I believe you can if you choose to

I suppose you're right oldkoot but it seems to me Nokta could help things a little by defining in the manual the difference between "Factory Default" and "Factory Reset". It might have helped me a little at least.

trust me you are not the only one confused by that, I myself was confused as well until I got clarification on it, I messaged the source and the answers I received was the same answers I gave you, its like saving custom user settings in the four little men even though you can save sixteen custom user profiles in those 4 little men, it can confuse Legend users simply because as you move through the modes park, field, beach and gold modes, if you have only saved one custom user profile to say field mode that same little man can be used to save a custom user profile in park, beach or gold mode, you can save 4 to each little man, people were confused because when they switched to a different mode that little man that had a custom profile set up would still be highlighted in a different mode but the custom user profile that was saved would only be active in the mode in which it was saved, users thought because it was showing up at the top of the screen that it was active in all modes and that is not the case, it is only active in the mode you set it up in unless you have saved a custom user setting in the next mode, which is done the same way you set a custom user setting in the first mode, I did bring this to the attention of Delik, but I think I confused her more then making her aware LOL

personally in my opinion they should have made it so when you moved to a different mode the little man did not have a check mark until you set up a custom user profile this would have eliminated the confusion in my opinion
