I've watched Iffy's video on the options and setup of the Manticore, but now I'd like some good live in the field stuff. I get my best info from those unstaged videos. I like to see the detector being used in live hunts. Good tone and VDI videos are killer.

The last thing I need is good information on a Manticore. Don’t entice addicts. If I can make it for a few more days, the price is going to go up and I’ll be safe.
For newbies such as yourself , the price bump will discourage some. The hardcore guys already have them. And they've cleaned out your hunting locales.

So I take it Santa came through. Congrats. From your posts I know you're after the deep silver in your park, and maybe with your physical limitations you might need to hire some cheap labor:grin: but if don't know already Coiltec has an 18 in. coil out. That combo just might get the job done if the stock coil don't get it. Good luck. Mark

Yeah, the way I see it, the Manticore is probably going to be my last chance to pull some of those deep hidden goodies in our city park. The D2 would also have done a good job I believe, but when I had it the ground was frozen and I couldn't verify what I was getting were indeed coins. If the Manticore doesn't prove to be able to get down any deeper than I did with my E-Trac, then I'll trade it off for another D2 and call it good.

For beginners who like knowledge on both relics and live digs with the manticore might want to check out “Finding America” on YouTube. Increased my knowledge base on relics, even trashy old stuff as well as well as general info on Manticore field use.

“… Rattleheads videos are straight forward, entertaining and informative…”

Agreed. His review and videos have been very helpful. I’ve had my Manticore for a couple of months now and am very impressed. Of course it’s a major step forward from my 70s era White’s Coinmaster. I’m getting more comfortable with it with every outing as I learn its nuances and controls.

My first bought metal detector in 2010 was a Whites V3i, I still have it. When running the polar display, it beats the Manticore in ID. When all of the three traces group in the upper right corner, it ain't iron. My Manticore isn't that definitive.

Manticore can strike deep. One will need to run to get ear for. Speed 4 generally slowest to run. U less soil is higher mineralized than sped up little. Speed 3 on the mildest ground can offer some advantage. Audio on Manticore very strong. Depth audio is where is at for the deep stuff yet be able to tell the shallow stuff. One needs to be careful though with running disc too high. IHs (non fatty) can come in mid to upper 50s. Screen data can help. Don’t go crazy with stabilizer setting. I don’t recommend d using tracking GB in higher iron sites. AT Gen and AT High Conductors is where the action is on higher conductors. AT Low conductors mode can surprise user on its depth on higher conductors but masking caused by lower conductive trash can be problematic. Worst of modern trash sites surf and seawater mode works, no GB ing on soil though. Single freq 5 kHz can help too.
One does get to see in the screen targets struck that are disc out. This can help sometimes on dig decision. Sensitivity - user likely to run 22-24 lots of times. Some higher sens up to 28 is possible depending.
Noise cancel frequently in already hard hunted sites. Expect deeper targets to up average some. You’ll still hear with corresponding ID range open.
Audio given on deeper targets will surprise new user. Meaning user won’t realize by the sound level just how deep the target really is. Audio stronger than Deus 2 imo.

I compared modes over deeper suspect targets when testing prerelease. Even compared surf and seawater to the land modes.
New user will likely be too picky with every quirk sound the detector makes. With use user will learn.
Sweep speed more forgiving generally over equal depth targets compared to FBS/FbS2 units.
Deep turf seeker that is not hard to run imo. With some stick time using it.
ID scale spread out nicely for various nonferrous targets. Nickel ID stellar imo.
Smaller lower junker nonferrous expect to see reading 08 ID and less.
Target trace intensity can be very telling. Expect dimmer trace (of nonferrous target detected (its position in screen) when masking is happening with some what corrupt audio.
Expect no more than 8 hours on a full battery charge using ATHC program and surf and sea water.
Portable power pack is nice to have.
Detector charge time is LONG.
Portable packs generally will charge faster and can power as well as charge unit while detecting.
External speaker sounds nice on the model. With good volume.
Hot key useage can speed up users use in the wild.

Manticore can FIND stuff.

Wish I could have videoed and showed my experiences doing prerelease testing. Eye opening. For me anyways. Even using M8 coil in trashy sites.

M9 coil is deep for its size. Detector feels real good swinging. I mean real good. My favorite coil for the Manticore. Wish it would have released sooner. I even wish Minelab would have offered the detector with it vs 11” coil as option.

Rattlehead has some very good manticore videos. He shows you the screen ID numbers and lets you hear the sound of the tones before he digs a target. finding his videos on youtube metaldetectingNWGA.

Here are my program settings.
