This was pretty roached out and crusty. I could not see anything at all before I started to clean it up (I know you should not clean old coins but it was just a crusted nasty disc until I tried)

. Then I could see a 98 and sometimes I think my eyes were playing tricks on me and I could see the top of a 7. I continued to clean it up some and then I could see a faint outline of a head and neckline. I am "guessing" it actually is 1798 and is a draped bust large cent...? The back is totally slick and I cannot make out anything. It was found at an old home site in a small local town in western PA next to a septic tank cap so I am guessing it was probably deposited there when they moved some ground and installed the tank. It was in the backyard of an old early 1800 home. The funny thing is we did not find anything else old on the two lots we searched. Your thoughts and any confirmation as to the exact type of coin if possible would be greatly appreciated. ALSO, I apologize in advance, I don't know why my pics keep turning to the side...they are not that way before I post them. thanks

First off, a big CONGRATS on breaking the 1700's barrier. Something only a few here have been able to do. Second, run, Tom is on his way.:rofl2:Well done indeed.
Thanks, yeah it is my first "confirmed" 1700s coin. I wish it was in better shape but at least it cleaned up as well as it did so I could get a partial date. The q-tips with vaseline hack someone posted online seems to do ok when it appears all hope is lost.

Great find! It’s hard to get 1700s American coins good job. Congrats
As for your pic turning your using a phone. It does the same thing to me. Don’t use the attach file button at the bottom. Above your text is a few icons one is a rectangle. us that and your pic come in normal.

Thanks! I will try that next time I find something worthy to post. I was looking in the media file earlier and saw I was not the only one having that issue.
