Took a drive Out to Orient Point ,Ny to catch the ferry to New London Conneticut last weekend.I must have passed hunderds of old farms and houses along the way. The Indiana Jones in me thought What could be hiding under the surface of some of these properties. The idea of packing up the Detector and and shovel and heading out there this weekend to knock on some doors seems like the only answer.

Yep by the sounds of it, there probably is a lot of good finds there just for the taking. Go gittum! :waytogo:

I wonder if you've ever detected any of the beaches on long Island ?
I often look at the Live Hampton cameras at the beaches, and have seen people detecting a couple of times.

I had a friend who was lucky enough to get access to the Hadley estate on long island before a Russain oligarch purchased and stated destroying the property to build a mansion or some garbage. The estate had history right into the 1600s, saw action in several wars, had a picnic grove on it at one point in history, really the best detecting site I have ever been too. Long island has sooooo much history and great stuff to dig. I found everything from lead grape shot and musket butt plates, to buttons and round musketballs, miniballs, coins from 1680 to 1900s, buttons from war of 1812, and so much more. So I guess what I am saying is do some research and give it a shot!
