Just saw this thread. LOL. I think it's going to be my metal detectorist life mission to find more large cents than Tom.

I know that you have one from CA. I have 3 so far : One from a stage stop, one from beach storm erosion, and another from a southern CA site (and a 4th one from a back east trip to Virginia a few years ago).

And if any east coast guys are reading this : No : We don't care how many you have found. Tsk tsk :sissyfight:

Heck that’s a daily amount in PA

Well, in Virginia the Department of Relics and Coins stocks the state's fields and trails with them (and Civil War buttons and bullets) every winter.

And let me guess : You get them in change at Starbucks, right ? And you use them as shims for coffee table legs, blah blah

I'm pretty sure this large cent isn't genuine.
It is an AI reproduction of the 1855 LC I found. Back before digital cameras. It was reproduced from the rubbing I have.

I'll find the original rubbing and rescan it, but it isn't much to look at as it is. Here is an example I had handy of a 1865 III cent I found and got nothing but a rubbing. Not much to look at.

Believe me, AI could have made the LC look a whole lot more real had that been my intent.

One more state to add... my detecting friend in Montana found one in a curb strip in Great Falls, Montana. I think it was the last year or 2nd to last year they were made.

Here is a map of some large cents posted by forum members. The map shows icons in the general location of where large cents have been found. If you click on an icon, a pop up window will display a picture of the coin, the date and the "handle" of the forum member that found it. This could be an ongoing project that I will work on until we have an interesting map full of large cent data. If you have a large cent find to contribute to the map then post a picture down below with the county and state that you found it in as well as the date on the coin. (One entry per member please.) Coins with unreadable dates are ok. Below is a link to the map as well as a screenshot incase the link has trouble working. There is one entry that is kind of a joke though.
