Is this heat the same heat we played in as kids ? LOL

I know I'm older and the heart failure is getting worse but my goodness ...... If this keeps up I'll be trying out my waterproof headphones on my AT Max and mask and snorkel /water shoes sooner then I thought I would this year .
It's the same. We're all just older. No such thing as global warming.

Used to snow alot in Massachusetts during the winter, and we could ice fish for weeks/months. Now I'll be lucky to get a week or two of ice fishing and my snow blower has become a relic... for arguments sake though, sure it's the same

Here in lower Michigan, seems much warmer, less snow, more ice/sleet during winter. Winters seem to have a constant freeze, thaw cycles have wreaked havoc on our roads, heck our Governor ran on a platform which included "fixing our damn roads". We've had local ice fishing events called off, last year we did have enough ice briefly for some ice fishing. For detecting, it's great, I was out bushwhacking all last winter between bouts of sloppy weather. (Hoser...what's happening for you Yoopers?)

HAHA well I was a short time yooper as we used to own property on the Keweenaw. But you are dead on right about the change in our weather. When I was young it was just a commonly known fact that kids were too dumb to come in out of the heat or cold. :rofl2: This last winter here in the north was very unusual for sure. A lot warmer temps, less snow for the most part, and yep, the freeze thaws were not a good thing. Is it global warming or a cyclical pattern, I have no idea. I remember about ten years ago the Great Lakes lost a lot of water. In Traverse City you could walk out a good 1-2 hundred yards in Grand Traverse Bay before you got your feet wet. Our weatherman at that time said it was a cyclical pattern, and now the water is right back where it is supposed to be. Hopefully we get some good frost heave this winter to push old coins closer to the surface.:waytogo:

These days are hot, I'm not sure they're hotter than we've seen in our lives, but it feels like we're seeing MORE hot days like this, and we're not even in Summer yet (technically). I notice it more on the winter side. There used to be a time where we would get a bunch of snow in Jan - Feb, and you could count on not seeing the grass again until March or April. That hasn't happened in years.

But yes, older bodies don't tolerate this heat as much.

I live on the east coast of Massachusetts and noticed everyone west of me are a bunch of babies. 😮 weather smether deal with it like me 🙄 oh and you guys are right the weather is changing. When my kids were little we would make small bobsled runs, have not had enough snow and cold to do that now. Of course my kids are grown up so I wouldn’t anyway.

I think we had a little more tolerance back then BRH. I just got back trying to do a quick hunt. It is only 78° but I couldn't handle it. I'm going to need to start getting out earlier.

I remember as kids we would get really excited every time the temperature would get to be above
100° because it meant we would be spending the whole day swimming and playing in the pool. We
had 5-10 of those days during the summer. Now we look forward to the days that are ONLY 100°
because there are so many that are 107°+ (and too many above 110°).

Wow, around here 100 or above is rare. On a roof or around equipment we see temperatures above 120 degrees once in a while. Now you made me feel bad for you ☹️

Could be worse... I could be in Palm Springs to the east where they say "Oh, it's only 112° today." Or near the Salton Sea... Living there in the summertime seems like cruel and unusual punishment...

Heat [or cold] never bothered me much and still doesn't.
Of the 2, I prefer the heat.
Never had any AC at all as a kid or as a teen. Very minimal as an adult. In fact I only started put AC in my room a couple years ago, finally got tired of sweating myself to sleep, but I freeze up quick and use a timer, never go to sleep with it left on. Rarely ever use AC in the car, funny how sometimes things just continue throughout your life without even thinking about it. Have always had an AC in front room for the family but they don't use it much either, in fact I always tout how it helps out our sweltering furry animals just to get them to use it more often, I feel like a jerk taking the time and effort to install it every summer and it barely gets used.

People think I am weird or anti AC, I'm not but just have been conditioned to do without it, I think people that need to spend their entire summer in a climate controlled environment are weird, but I can certainly understand people with ill health or advanced years needing it.
But I think by and large, people that have been conditioned [spoiled] early on with it maintain that need throughout their lives, just as I have been conditioned not to need it.

Have been working outdoors on a bridge almost 2 years so I am accustomed to take what nature throws at us very calmly, I like it hot and haven't been bothered by the heat yet, though I do look forward to getting out in the water with my detector.

See I've always preferred the cold, you can always add layers to gain warmth. You can only take off so much when your hot  :coolinoff:

i used to not mind the heat until after my open heart surgery and finding out i have heart failure which is at least 50%of my issue .....some of it is certainly mental as I've found out after the fact getting your sternum split actually causes a bunch of PTSD . Of course nurses would only ask how you feeling ,yet never explained why they were asking everyday after the surgery .

If you don't mind me asking, do they have you on anxiety meds for panic attacks?

No I'm only on Bloods thinners due to mechanical aortic valve and a blood pressure pill .... I haven't had any panic attacks that I know of ....my battles mentally are more depression based with how life has gone since 2016 for me

I'm on Plavix and .80 mg aspirin right now. Even the smallest cut and I bleed for days, and my arms look like I've been beat up with all the black & blue spots.

I have a heart issue, or rather had I guess. I had a 75% blockage in my right coronary artery. They put in a stent back in November and I haven't been in for my 6 month check yet. I also have COPD (emphysema) at stage 4 with 28% lung function. I take Alprotolzem (Xanax) 4 times a day to avoid anxiety and panic attacks. Nothing worse than being out in the middle of nowhere and can't breathe. The last thing you need is to panic, but when you can't breathe, seconds seem like hours. I have to keep my stuff together and concentrate on getting in a position where I can get air again. The last main issue is I have a 25 mm growth in my Cecum (intestines) that gets inflamed and then causes my diaphragm to swell causing my COPD issues where I can hardly breathe. I head to Wichita in 2 weeks to see a gastrology specialist to see what can be done. The doc here is afraid to even touch it. It started bleeding at the first of the year and of course, taking blood thinners didn't help, it put me in the ER with a GI bleed (internal bleeding). They told me I was lucky it started in the morning. Had it started at night I might have bled out. Nice to know that can happen anytime.

So, needless to say, I value any time I get to go out and detect even if it is for 15 minutes I feel blessed.
