I found this at an old Site in Laingsburg Michigan 2 days ago , but I'm not sure if it has ties to the civil war or its just some other type of Button .I personally have never seen a button like this with an Eagle on the back .
I also found a two-piece Union Eagle cavalry coat button at the same site and a Seated Dime , must have been some kind of re union type of gathering (who knows) .
Again, any help would be appreciated - Thanks
Al

Looks more like a Sportsman’s button on the front. Appears to be a bird/duck hunting motif. Looks more modern than civil war, turn of the century perhaps.

Eagle on the back is cool but not sure it means much to the button itself other than manufacturer mark maybe.

Do you have any suggestion as to how to find out or where to find out if there is any value to a button of this type ?

The eagle on the back may denote its American made, some US button makers began doing this after the war of 1812, encouraging consumers to buy American-made.

Clean it really carefully but well and try to get makers marks off the back.

Regardless of Civil War or not it’s still a cool find.
I don’t put value in terms of financial on artifacts in this hobby. Can’t help you there. It’s priceless in my mind.

Your button is a pre-CW Sportsmans hunting button, being its the early first form of a 2 piece button which would put it in the time frame late 1820's to late 1830's. Value = it's cool

Fredneck , how did you , or how would I go about researching a button of this type . Your help is priceless but I'd really like to know for the future ! Thanks again

A few reference books and over 30 years of digging buttons and learning about them, still learning.
