I had a feeling I was due for a good hunt today.
I headed off with Noxy for a pre low-tide hunt since Nublu is a little under the weather. I had texted with Sexton last night, so I knew I was going to run into him at some point in my hunt. (He had asked for my permission to come into Miami.
) When I arrived on the beach, I was a little shocked at the unexpected conditions.
It was a bit rough and swelly. Still nothing that was going to keep me out of the water. It began, and stayed throughout the 4 hours, a low target hunt. Just after 1.5 hours into the hunt, I ran into Sexton who was heading northerly to my southerly. We chatted for a bit, and he showed me a ring which he thought was junk but was still questionable to me on it possibly being good. Well anyway, it was still rough, and he gets out of the water to work the wet and dry while I continue hugging the shore. A few minutes later I got a crisp "11-13" on the shore break. I knew it was going to be gold. Scoop one nothing, I readjust and on the 2nd scoop
. Since the ring was silver colored, it became briefly questionable to me, but then I remembered “11-13” so there’s no way it was going to be stainless. I get out of the water and take a good look at it and see some writing inside.
Sexton was about 50 feet away when I walked up to him with a big grin.
I took out the ring and showed it to him. "No Way!"
The surf started improving around 10am, and I was already headed on my return back. At about the 3-hour mark, I get a low repeatable “3” on Noxy and I immediately think “GOLD CHAIN”. The reason I thought that is because I hadn’t dug a single small foil target the entire hunt. When I come up with the scoop I see a small and thick gold snake start sliding down the inside of the scoop…
I took a good look at it and saw the clasp was broken and it was marked so it was definitely my 2nd gold.
After 4 hours, I was done and headed back to the car. I checked the bracelet with my loupe and saw “10K” and I saw a lot of nice markings in the Cartier. At home, I weighed the hollow link bracelet, and it was 13.0 grs. I also noticed there were 2 areas with some staining in the links so that had been lost for a bit, and/or possibly ignored by other hunters, but not by me.
So my 2nd longest slump of the year is over. I had just gone 10 hunts gold-less, and 23 hunts with only 1 gold. I am hoping my numbers pick up for the remainder of the year.
