How much do you find in a Month and how much invested

I buy used and can almost always get my money back on my equiptment if I buy smart. I have bought and sold a few boats and always lost money, cars and always lost money, fishing equipment and always lost money, golf clubs and always lost money, etc. I find money everytime I go MDing and have a lot of fun doing it. I don't really consider my traveling expenses and batteries (rechargeables) because if wasnt going somewhere to detect, I would probably be going somewhere to spend more money.

I don't know about you guys...but Im going to be rich from this.

I WILL find that Pot O Gold......

Buying lotto ticket tonight..$540 million.....THATS a POT of GOLD.

My buddy Al summed it up best, when asked by his friends about the money he invested in the hobby..

"I spent $2000 in equipment and accesories to find some nickels"

I LOVE IT !!

Some people spend a thousand a year to join a gym and stop going sfter the first month ...

I've been keeping track of my finds and expenses and the value of my finds are currently 4.25% of my expenses. I think it's fun to keep track of.

I have a goal to eventually pay for my hobby with finds, but if I don't that still fine because it's really just about the fun of the hunt. And the rate I'm going I'll never meet my goal because I keep making it harder by buying more things.

If I were in this for the money I screwed up...

The most enjoyment I get out of this hobby is with my grandson, watching him dig with his tongue hanging out of his mouth is priceless. Seeing his eyes pop wide open when he digs up a matchbox car priceless.

Yes, I make him do the digging when he is with me in my yard or a field, he is not real neat about it, but he is learning. He is to small right now to handle the machine but he has learned to understand the ATPro sounds better than I do.
He will hear that grunt and say, that is just a nail pawpaw keep looking...:D

Grandchildren are Gods gift to you for not killing your own children when you reallllllllly wanted to....

:laughing::laughing: I Agree I love the grandkids

I think I got a lot of good honest responses to this tread

Thanks to all the honest people out there. I tell people asking that you probably won't ever find what you put into the hobby. But you will be healthier for doing it as often as you can. You get relaxment out if it. Something to do when bored. One said something along the line of more than his dad playing golf, probably so true unless dad has a new club that he uses at Tboxes LOL. I know my kids could care less about old coins. I like my collection of junk rings odd items old coins and jar of this months find this weeks finds . Lot of goal setting and little to show for it but I am in more solid shape than those others 62 who sit in a chair looking at the world going by. For the grandpa with his grandson. I hope to get some of my grandkids looking some have expressed a interest. Today a kid that watched me one day and I though of as a bother slowing me down come to watch again we talked. I let him dig some pin point with the Pro Pointer and he dug up some. I give him the 1958 Wheat and asked if he thought it was older then his Mom who talked with me asking if he was a bother. Learned his name (Vincent) reminded me of my grandson Preston. Smart little 9 year old talked to his Mom she may be getting him a Ace 250. Found one made the guy a cheap offer of $125 . Vincent said when he gets his detector he would like to go detecting with me. This kid is sharp on pin pointing. I have never been impressed with a kid before this when detecting. Most want to tear up the ground and not fill it back in . This kid learned the right way. He isn't one of those little snots you can't stand. I can see him growing up to be a good man when he is older.

Vincent

Vincent (I am sure I spelled it wrong) his mom looks to be maybe in early 30s or late 20s. He said he thought she was maybe older than the 1958 penny so I did some math with him I said 1958 and 2 is what he said 1960 then I said and 40 more he thought and said 2000 so I said ok you got 2 and 40 thats 42 and 12 more is 54 do you think your Mom is 54? No , how old do you think I am 70 he says I said no but closer than you were on your Mom I am 62. and we went on hunting. He had come out in a t shirt I said don't you think you'll get sick ? It was like 40 some degrees . After our talk his Mom come and sent him in to get a coat and gloves on. Was one of my best days , not in coins but fun with someone so interested in learning to metal detect and learn the right way.

I had my transmitter off so he could hear the sounds and when ready to move along I put it back on and forgot . Had me worried I told Vincent I must have lost it and he helped me look for it. Then I noticed it on the detector, what a relief . We laughed and went back hunting. Then either the cold got to him or he had a time limit and he went home. I know if I show up he will want to go again.
I want to go over tomorrow and let her know about a Ace 250 i found by checking different Craigslist. Maybe she can get it cheap. I can pick it up for her when we go to visit friends if the guy is willing to sell cheap so the little guy can go detecting in style .

MDing is a hobby for me & a way to destress, I find it very relaxing & each plug is a new Christmas present to open, you never know whats inside. I have been MDing for about 1 month & my total take for that month is 315 coins for $16.99, my best finds are a SLQ(no date),a 1900 Barber dime,a 47 & 65 Rosie's, found a few small jewelry items nothing of real value, I found several items I cant determine what they maybe. Probably the best thing about MDing is it gets my butt out of the chair & outside getting a little exercise, instead of in front of the boob tube munching on snacks

When i was younger my favorite past time involved alcahol, bars and alot of late night partys. Glad i didn't keep track of the cost. I'm sure i could have bought top of the line everything many times over for this hobby. Not to depict myself as an alcaholic, was just heavy into partying. Havn't had a drink in yrs.:D

I see it as a hobby that shows me a little bit of history and keeps me from sitting in front of the tv. Although I did tell my girlfriend that my goal was to find enough clad to cover my machine!! I thought it would be fun and so far I was right. Got a long way to go though. I guess the biggest thing that I wonder when I dig up a treasure or relic is wondering who it belong to and how the managed to lose it.

Its about time and space, we only have so much time, and we are confined to the space we have. Our only goal in life should be maximize our happiness, and to live as long as possible,,,

Keep things in perspective...

Well put! Your equipment has already been paid for in the physical and mental health it provides. If you going out MDing to get rich, you're doing it wrong!

Easy mistake! Couple more days and I'm off to the Beverly Hills Porsche dealer to pickup another 1955 Porsche Spyder 550. I like to get a new one every year or so.

I went to Detroit and found $16,000 worth of stuff in only 5 days. Oh wait, that was an episode of American Diggers!
