Help! Is this gold?

Found this gold colored item this morning, it is stamped .9999. Could this be gold?

Any hallmarks? Looks like gold but '9999' does not necessarily mean it's that pure.

does not look gold , I see plating flaking off in a few spots as well. I say plated over copper .......

I have a piece somewhat like this an its .9999 silver with a gold plate over it. They got a name for it but I think what it is . It starts with a V.. DID it read as a coin if so then yes its silver but if it read very low near foil then gold.

You may be thinking of VERMEIL. I found a .925 one and also says CHINA inside the ring. Thought I had gold there for a minute!

This may be what my piece is too. I took it to a jeweler yesterday who said it looked like gold but based on the fact that it couldn't be bent by hand, it was most likely something else. Pure gold would be easily malleable; the piece I found isn't. Oh well, it was a nice find anyway I guess!

I tend to agree with Seabee Ron, the color seems to be a little off and the base metal slightly distorted.......

Vermeil is the word you are thinking of. Gold plating over silver.
