Instead of walking back to my truck to hunt a different area of the large park I'd been hunting, I said screw it, I'll just hunt my way across. About 20 paces in my AT Pro hit a solid 50 vdi just 2 inches down. I'd been digging pulltabs at 53-55 all morning and the 50 sounded good. Pin pointed it and placed my trowel about an inch away, pushed it down about 3" and uprooted the crucifix. Then I spent about 10 minutes freeing the chain one link at a time due to roots and the hard, black clay. Got it out intact but it was filthy and I could not make out the stamp on the hanger. Put it in my pocket, chalked it up as brass and continued pulling dimes and pennies. Found a 60 cent spill and got excited. Got home and washed it, pulled out the loupe and 750 jumped out and hit me in the face! My young daughter (good eyes) was able to decipher the maker's mark, hence we know its Italian origin. I thought my 10g 14k ring was gonna be tough to beat...It just got smashed!!! Now have a nice rum cocktail.

Congratz. And I like the pose of that baby on-the-scale. That's the "Ka-ching" money-shot moment !

Thanks guys! The clasp on this thing is badazz, old school and thick. To think that I opted to walk that stupid direction instead of driving my truck is still boggling my mind. I did my "Detectorist gold dance" for sure.

Thanks fellas...I had to put down the detector for a couple days...bass fishing therapy has called! I tried to hunt yesterday, but just couldn't get my head right. I have hunted almost every day since last August (lake has been too low to launch my boat). I may take a couple weeks off and just fish. Life is pretty frickin good.
