First gold in 2 years...

There are initials on the horizontal part of cross. PNB date is 5-13-10 I don't care what Earl thinks that is the halmark Joe... I tried using my macro but can't get a clear shot because my hand shakes from the ulnar nerve damage I have in my elbow... I have nothing to prove to Earl, he no longer hunts. I acid tested it like I do all my finds.
Its OK , I have problems here to worse than yours , hope to see the 70s like OBN , but don't know anymore , this Macro on this digital won't take picks in the sun , but finds it does a good job ! Last post Later.

20/20 here I see nothing , markings not posted , this is 2026 now , I have all year to find gold , when I do find it , it will be over 2 grams & marked , better go for a vacation to Miami , Felix finds no fools gold :rofl2: & it fits :lol: PS I wouldn't even have posted that , OK you say its marked , if it really is , you know the beach forum better than anyone Post The Marks , if not Fake :chaplin: , everybody is scared to say anything , me , I Alway's stood up to the bosses & they always respected me :jawdrop::waiting: PS 20/20 & blew the pick up 250% No Marks , One good thing , if its gold , you got Gold Fever once again , maybe , just maybe you will hunt more , as for me it's coming , a few more things I need to get squared away here1st. Happy Hunting 2026
Earl, it's 14K along with a makers mark. I uploaded the pic of the cross and had Grok AI scan the image, enhance it, and blow it up, and also asked for an analysis or probably of what Grok AI thinks it is. In addition to the enhanced pic, I thanked Grok for doing this and "he" replied with the following:

You're very welcome, Mike!

I'm glad the enhanced close-up made the marking clear—looks like it's stamped 14K along with what appears to be a maker's mark or jeweler's stamp (possibly "IDX" or similar, depending on the exact style).

If you need help researching what that particular mark might mean (like the jeweler/manufacturer), want to know more about 14K gold value, or have any other questions about the cross, just let me know. Happy to assist! ✨

It's 14K Craig. I had AI analyze the pic, enhance, and blow it up, and also give me an analysis of what the AI thinks it is. See reply to Earl above.

I know its 14k, only Earl was questioning it by doing so questioned me. Why would I make up a story? Just to post? I am about as black and white as one can be. It would be pretty stupid of me to post saying something was gold and it wasn't. I have hundreds of gold finds, yeah lets fake a gold find...

My picture shows the 14k SH... but goes blurry, I sent them to Felix already but I will not post them here no need to. and yes there is a makers mark but I can't see it well. I had to place the crucifix on a raised angle to see all the numbers you are basing it off a picture that is flat...

Congrats on the gold and good luck on the next trip. Hoping to hit the coast at least once this winter.
Thanks Cellr, I was just happy to get out with temps above freezing for the first time in a long time... usually this weather stays in Michigan where it belongs, we don't deserve it  I see our reprieve coming to a close next Thursday...

What is that two silver looking lines under neath running strait down , I see a #1 or could be a scratch- next to that a small 2 on the left side top of what looks like a #5 maybe mixed with 925 silver , 1 gram gold & 925 Sterling , can't see an S as Craig stated , I see a very distinct 5 not a round top , its squared off , the stamp defiantly not 14k ! --( Sand Hunter ) Gold plate over silver :?: , and Craig said he doesn't care what Earl thinks , which is fine with me ! I would just hack saw through to see if its solid , magnet, acid test, it's going in the junk pile or melt pile anyway Cmon , and if it was me that found the cross , you bet the boys would be calling it out  . Just like the chain I found  PS this is a question, statement, quote, is to- Sand Hunter to answer, no cracking the whip from the boss :aok:PS The Judge is calling for a Jury Trial still in Gold Slumpy recession till case is proven , case # 125 0n the cross :scope::pirate2:🥸 Sand -- The fish is still on the hook in 2026 :fishin:

This :?: is for OBN only , all the gold you found over the years besides rings , not clearly marked , what test's & conclusions do you come to- without a doubt, to determine if the find is solid gold , mixed gold & silver or other metals , gold plate, fool's gold , or just plain junk , Methods Sir Ring Daddy :bling::?::chaplin: PS I admit I haven't found much gold , so I am asking a Professional :detector:🥸 as I was proven wrong , called out on the chain , but I didn't loose it, I just searched for the answer , got it with the magnet !

I had to do the same thing with the Silver ring I found after the nor'easter hunt. I could see 925 inside the band using my lighted magnifier but had to set my cell phone camera on macro and move it back and forth under the light before I could get a clear picture of the mark. I have a lot of blurry ones I didn't post, lol.

I think those two silver looking lines might actually be white gold, and I have an example that shows exactly what I'm referring to. My wedding ring is 14K and is a combination of Yellow & White gold. The entire ring is Yellow gold but has a strip in the outside middle of the ring of White gold. The inside band of the ring is Yellow gold, so the strip of White gold probably sits on top of the Yellow.

When I saw this ring, I just had to have it, love the contrast between Yellow & White gold, it just spoke to me, probably because I love Silver. It kinda may look like Silver, but it's White gold, so those 2 Silver looking stripes on the cross may in fact be white gold. If the stripes were Silver, then IMHO, the maker would have needed to add the 925 mark in addition to 14K.

Pirate sense?
Those that have dug a lot of gold... you just know when you see it, touch it. feel it.. And this is saltwater gold. Craig and several others have that sense I'm sure for they have dug a lot.

As far as testing, a magnet first, then acid, then a file.
This year I do plan on hunting Sandy Point for fresh drops, see how that goes on my pirate senses.

Only once in 10 years have I been wrong on my pirate senses. Dug this ring and though it was junk for it was rusty.. once I got home and cleaned it did I find out it was 10k.. the ring was in a area with a lot of ferrous metal, which had bleed off and affected the gold ring.

You posted on my thread again after you said you were done.. seeing how you don't find any gold its understandable... my find is 14k gold, gold is mixed with other metals like nickel that is what most white gold is made from a higher amount of nickel and copper. 14k gold is 58.3% gold the rest is whatever they mixed the gold with. Hope that helps you some. But it probably won't.

Here learn something: The composition of 14K gold includes a mix of durable metals like zinc, nickel, copper, and sometimes a plating of rhodium to improve its appearance. The presence of these additional metals not only augments the endurance of the gold but also influences the color yielding various hues such as yellow, white, and rose gold. Yellow gold retains the traditional golden luster, white gold is favored for its silvery sheen, and rose gold offers a pinkish tint, all thanks to the varied mixtures of metals.

I've hunted Sandy Point a few times many years ago, but those times were competition hunts. IIRC, I was probably using my Fisher 1220X, saw lots of guys using Tesoro Cibola's and other small Tesoro's because they were so light. I won some prizes when I cashed in my tokens but alas, didn't win any metal detectors.

Only thing I don't love about Sandy Point from a visitor/sunbather standpoint is that God awful orange sand, where the heck did they get that? Took the wife down there one time to lounge on the beach, and our towels and anything we had laid on the sand got stained with orange, lol.

Sand , Found a 18k Gold Plated chain , it was light , however they had doubts big time , so I ordered a magnet , took a week to get Amazon , they sure had fun with me  the chain drew to the magnet , even though the clasp said 18k , I thought it was real , so rights are reserved on here for questioning, even the boss , he said it has 14k markings , so let's see it , it's not like a ring- well maybe has engravings of the owner on it , they turned out to be correct , the chain drew to the magnet , I ended up giving it away to a x gf from the 90s , if I would have kept it , I would have remembered the thread battle , since then , with the fake, unmarked , gold plated , junk out there , Craig > after 2 years no gold , no one else question this , it's not how it works here on the water forum .:sorry::my2cents:
When I found the Silver ring after the nor'easter, I initially thought it was costume as it felt a bit light. But when I got back to the hotel room, rinsed it off and checked inside the band with my lighted magnifier, that's when I saw 925 stamped inside the band.

Just for grins, I tried the magnet test, just in case it was counterfeit, i.e., junk metal with a 925-stamp added to fool some unsuspecting buyer. But luckily, the magnet didn't attract the ring, nothing, nada, not even a little wee bit of a pull, so I think the mark is legit.

Oh Lordy ! Don't you ever shave your knuckles , cause I know they don't drag on the ground ?

Thanks COT KOB, you just made my day, lol. With my "peace treaty" with Earl, I haven't had anyone to play with on this forum, so this is welcomed relief.

Nope, don't shave my knuckles. Don't shave my chest, armpits, naughty bits and only shave my face to trim around the goatee, don't want to take the wife out to dinner looking like a Mountain Man. :oldguy:

Do you shave your knuckles? Is that really a thing?
