Dillon beach😝

PRIVATE PROPERTY - ASK FOR PERMISSION. It is not the same as going to a Public Park Tom. I have done the same as you in some Public Parks. I have also approached those in charge of PRIVATE PROPERTY and explained the good that could be done by cleaning up the beach/property while detecting. I don't know California law but I would think that trespassing on PRIVATE PROPERTY could lead to the real problems you don't want or need.. If you are licensed to practice law in the state you could offer your services pro bono if someone pursued your advice and ended up in jail... (And since it is a resort I would believe they have activities all/any hours of the day)

.... It is not the same ....

I guess you didn't see post #21. I read further down the list of posts , where it LATER was clarified that this was a private beach. Then sure : The owner can make any stipulations he wants. Refer to #21

hi! Not sure what the etiquette on this is (I’m new here) but I can offer you a chance to comb at this beach! We lost an engagement ring there this past weekend and would really appreciate some help finding it!

This is a really old thread... If no one from the forum jumps in to help check out theringfinders.com

I'm on the wrong side of the country to be of any use, but I really hope it works out for you!

I can look for it on the weekend but if it is near the water It probably has sunk out of reach. Let me know if you can meet me there to show me where to look.

I’ll be at a wedding this weekend so cannot meet you there, but really appreciate your willingness to help! It is not near the water, more likely it may have been picked up by someone else since it’s in sand near the parking lot. DM’d you coordinates and directions! Thank you so much

Metal addict comes highly recommended. And like the rest of us : Loves to put our hobby to good use. If you can't be there to show him the suspected area, then maybe you can send him a satellite map capture, with circles and arrows @ the suspected zone.

Good luck you guys !

Research the laws in your state and the municipality the beach is in. DO NOT ask for permission from anyone as Tom said, it kicks a hornet's nest.

In my state, we have Constitutionally protected access to the beach up to 10 feet beyond the "rake line" or mean high tide line. There is no such thing as a private beach thus no need to ever get permission from anyone.

Same here in CA, but sometimes the land all around the beach gets bought up so the only access to the
"public" portion of the beach is via boat... and you will get wet sitting on the beach at high tide. Dillon Beach
is one of those areas that the access points are owned by a private landowner. They prohibit MDing on that
land, although I guess you could technically still MD in the wet portion but is it really worth the fight? I was
involved in an incident on 17 mile drive in Monterey where they chase off anyone fishing, and although the
right to fish is guaranteed in the CA constitution on public land (beaches that are not part of an MLPA/MPAA)
but it's just not worth getting arrested and fighting about to make a point.

..... I was involved in an incident on 17 mile drive in Monterey where they chase off anyone fishing,......

I mean .... SERIOUSLY ? Really ? I've fished along there. As live and work in Salinas / Monterey area. Have fished many times right along there. No one said anything to me. I guess I didn't ask enough questions, or run into the right persons. And thus if no one cared, then presto : NO ONE CARED.

Good call! Just sent that to him - thanks for the suggestion.
They seemed willing to make an exception for metal detecting this time - it is really unfortunate that they otherwise restrict access to y’all

The person I rode with was a MD (Medical Doctor in this case, not Metal Detector) and pretty bright. He was also not used
to people telling him he was wrong, especially when he was actually in the ethical and legal right. When security came up
and said "no fishing along 17 mile drive" he said that we were fishing in public waters and CA constitution guaranteed the
right to fish. We weren't fishing from private property and we paid our admission so we had the right to be here to access
the public property below the mean high tide line. 3 more security trucks came, and they called Monterey PD... who responded
with 3 more vehicles. The driver was fishing and arguing with the cops and security after they got there, the rest of us who
didn't want to deal with spending a few nights in jail over this were just sitting on the shore with our gear, not in the water.
The guy who drove us there was right, he was out in the water fishing and was not fishing from private property. But the PD
didn't know the text of the law about mean high tide and this was before we could just look it up on a smartphone and show
them the relevant CA laws guaranteeing the right to fish on public land anywhere that it wasn't explicitly illegal or for species
illegal to target in a location or given time. I almost decided to carry around a copy of the state constitution but upon thinking
about it didn't want to give LEO or rental-LEO a reason to find some other excuse to shoot me since being a smart-ass isn't
grounds for firing their weapon...

I realize this ^ ^ is about fishing, and not md'ing, but :

And at THIS ^ ^ point, ladies and gentlemen : You could "argue your constitutional rights" till the cows come home. And shucks, MAYBE YOU'D BE RIGHT (prevail, etc....)

Or : You can simply give lip service and leave. And simply come back later when said-singular-lookie -lou isn't there.

Some times, in this life, you have to "pick your battles". Sometimes, in-this-life you have to just pick your nose when busy-bodies aren't watching. So as not to offend the squeamish, eh ? Then : What they don't see won't offend them, RIGHT ? C'mon !

I detected Dillon a few hours but found only aluminum junk bottle caps and trash.
I was sweating bullets in the hot sun and my wife was bored. I tried the bathroom area but too much emi.
