So I was hunting at Dillon and an employee says to me we have rules so someone can have a chance to retrieve their lost stuff, ok fair enough.
He says I can only detect the wet sand and surf and over by the rocks.
I won't be hunting there anymore.
The last storm really pulled all the sand out of the rocky areas. All I got were 3 pennies.
I decided instead to hunt in my hometown and scored the silver necklace and ring!

Nice finds but what is "Dillon Beach"? If it's a public beach he would've had to explain to me why I legally can't hunt there. I am going to assume its some kind of hotel employee that told you something. Down here In Miami, I have never had any hotel employee tell me I can't hunt the dry sand. In any case, I try to hunt it before they place all their nuisance hundreds of stupid lounge chairs.

Over here it's the lounge/umbrella rental guys that scatter their stuff for a half mile in either direction at the prime towel line distance from the water. About 5% of it actually gets used by paying customers.

I was going to make a similar comment on the percentage of those lounge/umbrella's that get put out vs. their use. They clutter the beach and are merely an eyesore and hindrance for people coming in to set up for their own day at the beach. There should be ordinances for those companies that "over set-up". Its really ridiculous.

I agree with what others have said about hunting that beach.

No beach in California can be "Private" and must have coastal access.

(btw, that is a beautiful stretch of coastline up that way!)

It is a private beach.

It is the only private beach in California I believe. They charge $10. Parking unless you come late like I did.

Wow! For every rule... and this is actually that exception!

I'm guessing the owner is an avid MDer and is protecting his own private hunting spot? :ohwell:

Even if it is a private beach I would check with someone of authority (hotel manager or whoever had control) rather than some low level beach janitor.

Well SURE ! And that's what you were doing is "looking for your lost stuff". RIGHT ??

Do/Did you take the word of one Beach A** without pursuing the issue with someone of authority? Beautiful finds anyone would be proud of...

No. We should *NOT* "pursue the issue with someone of authority" . You will merely swat hornets' nests, and someone is going to "invent a rule to address our pressing issue" Instead of going above his head "seeking clarifications", here's what you do :

You merely LOOK UP PARK/BEACH RULES FOR YOURSELF. If you see nothing there that says what the guy is trying to claim, THEN PRESTO : He's wrong. No need to have some 3rd person higher up's "blessings". Ok ?

And as for the singular one "Beach A**", here's the solution for persons like that : Merely come back later when he's not there. If that means hunting at night, then SO BE IT !

For example : We had a singular person like that (who morphed the usual "alter /deface language to apply to us). And rather than try to fight him or "clarify" him, we simply figured out what his office hours were (in the particular govt. office that had a window that looked down on to this park). It was not hard to figure out, because we had only ever been scrammed at 8am (when he was walking across the lawn to his office), or 5pm (when he goes home). Thus presto, we deduced that he was a worker there, and that building is only open from M to F, and from 8 to 5. Thus : We simply go on weekends, or after 5pm, or whatever.

Why this notion that we must "please every last person on earth " ?
