Central va bullets

Hello all, very new to metal detecting. I found these 3 metal balls by a wooded creek about 1.5 miles from Louisa courthouse in Va, and about 5-6 miles from Trevilians battle field. They are too large to be buckshot, I was hoping someone could give me an idea on them. The only other findings so far have been shotgun shell heads from the early 1900s to some from the 30's-1950s. Any ideas on what they are or tips on searching would be helpful. Thx

They kind of look like buck and ball to me. There were three buck balls that connected to the larger ball. Or they could be revolver. How big are they?

I really dont have a good tool to measure their circumference, but I found one today with unique marks on top. I can take a photo em them next to a measuring tape if that would help. I am searching through 15 acres of woods, but I am starting to find tons of them in about a .5 acre radius, some unshot and some splatter. Im a few miles from a large Calvary battle in the civil war, wondering if they could date to then, or just an old target area back in the woods. Ive found a few 1800's square nails along with some early 1900's shotshell ends.

Yk what. I’m pretty sure those are .44 colt model army pistol bullets. I found one similar and it has the same squeezed rifling like it has been shot out of a pistol. If you have calipers that would help a lot. None the less. If it really is, that’s an awesome first find. Definitely rarer then a common minie ball.

And for tips on searching. You already have a big clue that people were there. Scan the area into quadrants. If you hit nothing else. Follow the creek edge. Whenever there’s water, there would have been people or cavalry letting there horses get a drink. Also, since you are close to the Trevilian station battlefield which was THE largest cavalry battle in the whole civil war, finding pistol bullets only makes sense. and is a huge clue that the land you are on, could possibly have been another unknown engagement.

Before I had calipers i would adjust a crescent wrench to just barely touch the sides and measure between the jaws... not as precise but gets close. Nice finds!

There’s more things out there. The more stuff you find the better the picture of what was going on there. So keep hitting it. Congrats and good luck.
