Can't find Silver

I feel your pain, my back is killing me today, I use the ATPRO and no head phones, do you use the head phones?
Hey guys, I've found that headphones are stealthy' keeping quiet doesn't bother others in parks and especially at the beaches. Some hear the beeping from away and get curious to what you're finding. Me, I don't want to discuss my detecting with strangers out on the paths and parks I may be. My best reason for the phones.

We've had luck in locations people camped. One good way to find camping and fishing spots is to use chronicling America. Use the time line on the site say from 1880-1920 and the state you are in. It will bring up news articles from that time period with keywords you put in search.

Rebar will give me a false reading but mostly along block/cinder walls. I can't say I've ever run into rebar in a sidewalk. I belong to a club. There are many members who have never found silver. Only difference, they don't hunt old neighborhoods and ask permission to hunt old homes. The last four houses I asked to hunt their yard, they all said yes. Yesterday at a 20's house no silver coins, but I did dig a silver thimble, only my second in 11 years of hunting. The house two days ago, the homeowner sitting on this porch said "there's nothing in my yard". I've heard that a bunch of times. I dug a 1917p dime, it was about 4 inches deep. At a city park where I've dug 30 silver dimes, I just dug another silver, it was where they pulled out a bunch of shrubs that were along a chain link fence and now it's just dirt. I've heard a lot of excuses why some can't find silver. Do you really believe every house in an old neighborhood has been hit. A lot has for sure, but not all. Not all because some people will not let you do their yard. Well, some of those people may have either died, or moved, and now the new homeowner will let you detect his yard. Whenever I go someplace, I will 90% of the time drive through older parts of town and I always have an eye out for places to hunt. Carry your detector with you everywhere you go. The best time to hunt is just after a rain when the ground is wet, your machine will go deeper. Too, my machine is programmed to find silver coins. I took one factory program, programmed it to be silent. Using the volume control, the machine is super quiet, except when I swing over a nickel, and when I swing over a copper penny or a dime or quarter the volume is very loud. I've heard if you discriminate metals you lose depth, that's why I use my volume control so I'm not discriminating metals. I know for sure, if you do not hunt in old places you will NOT find silver.

Went out today back to the Boy Scout Camp. Started off as usual lots of clad quarters and pennies. Then I found a wheat penny yea a 1951! Then another wheat, a 1957,a few more clad pennies and then another wheat a 1945 so I'm. thinking if there are wheaties there HAS to be silver. So I keep going I find a junk ring which is still cool. Then I find a neckerchief clasp which is also cool but where is the silver? I get a good signal could this be it? Nope a camp pin which again still cool to find . More clad and pennies everywhere but I keep digging. Lots of pull tabs but I keep digging then I hit a 86 on the AT Pro at 6-8 inches ok probably another state quarter. I dig it up and what the hell another dime that's unusual to ring that high came out of the ground around 5-6 inches. It's covered in dirt. I wipe it off and it's shiny ! FINALLY I found my first silver after 5 years of detecting a 1964 dime. While this isn't a big deal to most guys its not that old and just a Rosevelt but it's SILVER. The Monkey is off my back the blind squirrel found a nut LOL. Now the goalpost is moved up a bit. So today was a good day.

Went back to the same place today to try out my new 900. First target ,pull tab, lol the literally 10 ft from the truck boom another SILVER dime ! Now I have a twin pair both are 1964 Rosies. Rest of the day was a little clad and alot of trash while I'm learning this new machine. Heading to a new park that has been there since the early 1900's that is pretty big in the next couple of days so we'll see how that goes.

Congrats on getting your first silver and now another one! It is a great feeling isnt it? Be patient and they will keep coming when you least expect it.

Well done! I know it wasn't till my second year before I found silver. Seeing that shiny edge sticking out of the dirt is an awesome feeling for sure. I like hunting the woods as there has been National Guard activity since 1909 and we still find a silver or two. Sometimes you have to think outside the box. You're in an area where people have gathered, and the outlying area is covered in tons of small trees and underbrush. Yeah, a pain in the patoot to hunt, but remember, it may not have been covered like that 40 years ago. Wade in and see what pops up. Made some of my best finds in the pucker brush. Again, CONGRATS!:waytogo:
