Cool pics KOB. It would still be a viable place to dive on IMO. Gittur Dunn!
Took my 1st seaplane , helicopter and glass bottom boat ride there. Boat was incredible. All these rare giant fish , clear as day through the glass. When California has extreme offshore winds , this harbor can get big surf and damage. There are some youtube videos of it.

Around 30 yrs ago was the last time I was there. Spent several hours md'ing the beach. Lots of clad , a couple silver rings , a few old coins. But no Gold. I'm sure a diver could hunt and find Gold there if they spent some time. As with most harbors though , expect lots of trash. I wouldn't go outta my way to just hunt there unless you were on vacation. Great island to tour.

I hear ya on the glass bottom boats. We took a boat tour up in Munising Michigan by the Pictured rocks. It was a shipwreck tour and we went over quite a few wrecks. Sure shows you how dangerous the Great Lakes cane be. :jawdrop:

I think they had something similar here in the CB at a few of the older beaches. Mike and I have dug a few hundred half dollars over the years at a couple spots. We figured it was a promotion event, they would toss out half dollars for everyone to dive in and get... That or either people carried a lot of HD's to the beach and lost them in the water. And these beaches are nothing like the ocean beaches, most are very small but back in the day they would have to close for they had a visitors limit.
This spot I got about 60 gold from and I would say 30 half dollars over a two year period.
Yellow dots are the gold found, I did this at several sites to keep a record.

Nice to see that someone was able to detect there before it all got paved...

It's all rockwall/seawall now it looks like (around where the boats dock at least). Looks
like there is only one small section of beach in the harbor areas still.

That's exactly how it is when I was there , though it is a bit larger than the pic looks. I'm sure someone could find something good there. You can find decent weekend travel packages and stay the weekend. And bring your machine and have some fun. But to go and specifically hunt that beach , NO. There are other areas on the island that have probably never been hunted I'd try 1st.

I'm going to go on a fishing trip some time this summer to fish and camp up at two harbors. Maybe I'll have to bring my detector too...

Hey OBN, in the CB, I know if you wanted to hunt on land, you'd of course need permission from the landowner. But from what I remember, if you're in the water, that's fair game. For some reason, I seem to recall that a landowner's land stops at the water.

Just thinking if you had a boat, you could cruise up to any water location or old swimming area, jump in and start detecting without having to ask anyone for permission to be there. Is that the case?

Yes, the mean high tide line is where the land owner has rights up to.
And Yes if you come in by boat your good to hunt any spot other then historical which there is only one near me. Londone town in Edgewater Maryland
Been very Blessed in owning a boat, I've had a few land owner say they own the water but I carry the DNR's number and so far that all it takes, everyone of them have been women also.

Next time, ask those women if their name is Karen, lol.

Hmm. May be interesting to do some scuba detecting where the copper-canyon lake parties used to happen
on lake Havasu too... With the craziness that happened there before it got shut down (years and years of partying)
there's likely LOTS of lost items at the bottom of the lake. I'm thinking a tonne of cans and trash too, but a good
amount of lost valuables too.

I'm going to have to try to remember where we used to hang out on the river below the dam in Parker now too.
I bet there's a lot of things buried in the silt on the riverbottom there too and it is likely shallow enough to detect
without scuba gear.
